Stuttering playback of .ts files

When playing a .ts file back on both Shield TV and via a remote PC browser I am getting playback with the file freezing every few seconds before moving on. The new Emby Theatre on remote PC does play but there is tearing of the picture. If I run Theatre on the same machine as Emby Server (which uses a 650Ti GPU) everything plays perfectly. Network monitor shows down speed between 6 and 8 mbps. Same media on my Nexus 6 plays fine.

Your system is not able to transcode that item fast enough for smooth playback.

 

Not sure from that information why the Shield is transcoding - unless you've turned off VLC in it or told it not to try to direct stream HD...

Shield TV is direct streaming via VLC but playback is choppy. The transcoding log came when trying to play in my browser where playback is still choppy. Here is the server log when playing the .ts file via Shield TV:

Just converted the file to mkv and it plays perfectly.

Well done.  I'm guessing the Shield was having the same performance problem the server was trying to encode the .ts version.
