Metadata changed in 3.0.5859.0 ?

Hi all

I've just added 5 new movies to my library, but the metadata and image files have changed

There is no movie.xml in the folder at all and instead of having a folder.jpg it is now poster.jpg

The movie metadata is all there in the Web interface though, so the metadata is somewhere (and yes I can see hidden files)

I've checked all my metadata settings on the server and there has been no changes, Save artwork and metadata into media folders is still checked.

This is a bit of an issue, I still use starkcovers to process folder images, it won't work with poster.jpg only folder.jpg

Anyone know what is going on, and how to revert it to how it was? Movies added 8 days ago are as they've always been, so somethings happened since then.

Cheers

This has been mentioned in some threads already, basically they're trying to get rid of the Legacy option which many of us were previously using.

Actually, no. The decision making of what file names to save as has been getting complicated and created a major bug for a much larger group of users than those using the legacy saving convention. in order to resolve the issue I had to tear it all down to a very basic form in order to hunt it down, and that meant temporarily affecting the hidden legacy config switch. Once I'm confident it's been resolved we can build it back up.

Hi Luke

Just go be clear, something was broken, you gimped it down to try and fix it and it will be back to normal once you've worked out the problem ?

If I roll back to the latest non beta will this revert the behaviour to how it used to be until you've fixed what ever is wrong ?

Yes, that is what I believe happened. However, the latest stable seems to be missing the Legacy image format. You can update to the latest Dev version, and folder.jpg works as expected again. But, be warned, other things might not work...

Luke, thanks for getting folder.jpg back!

it should be in beta too, if not, it will within a day or so.

Hi,

Is there any future plan for a total migration of local metadata to new filenames and file structure (not only .nfo files but images too) and get rid of legacy switches and backwards compatibility issues, once and for all?

If so, I could help on this, scripting Is my thing and I'll to do it for my library anyway.

Hi, there aren't really any backwards compatibility issues because the server still recognizes all the old conventions. Migrations are risky, so there's no plans as of now to have the server go and change everyone's files.

Is this still on-going?

My folder.jpg images still aren't being created and I can't find an option to enable them. Checked under Library-Services-Image Settings and found others but no folder.

I am on beta version 3.0.5928.0 now, and it looks like it stopped back in February.

FYI, the folder.jpg is used by Windows when you browse the folders in Explorer as large icons.

Do you have Legacy or Compatible set in <ImageSavingConvention> in your system.xml?  %appdata%\Emby-Server\config

Legacy creates folder.jpg

Compatible creates poster.jpg

My system.xml file was under %appdata%\Mediabrowser-Server\config and the <ImageSavingConvention> is set to Legacy.

With all of this being said, I'm about to do a fresh install and saw the same changes that pgriffith noted. IE; no more movie.xml. Should I remove all movie.xml files from my collection before I re-install? That way all old and newer movie folders are the same when the server begins to read them?

You don't need to remove anything. The server will read your existing metadata. The only reason to remove them would be if you don't want that to happen.
