Heckler 147 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) I'm currently still using Windows 7 Pro 64 on all my machines and have been very active about locking my machines down from the insidious intrusions on my privacy that is windows 10... it's not an OS anymore it's a service... and soon you're all going to be getting charged to use it and update it For my server I still use Media Centre and have a couple of trusty MCE remotes that work perfectly fine and does everything I want (except for control subtitles, which I have tried and failed to resolve using loads of different tips and tricks) But I am aware that support for W7 will end in 2020 and it's highly likely that emby will stop supporting it earlier than that. So I am currently considering my options... Turn my mediaserver into a Linux box... but it's also my main viewing platform and I wold need something to replace media centre that worked as flawlessly as it does with the remote... and by that I mean can be triggered from the remote as well as controlled. The last thing I want it t have to dig the mouse or keyboard out of the drawer just to start up media centre (no I don't want it to auto start). Upgrade to W10 with no media centre because they killed it off... and face the same issue with controlling by remote.... whilst locking the OS down and preventing it from reporting every single thing I use it for... For those who aren't aware, it's sending data on keystrokes as well as searches, sites visited, software installed and a whole host of other nasty invasive things that mean they can use you as a product to profit from. I'm firmly against that type of business model, it's my data, my privacy and if anyone should profit from it... it should be me. I really don't want to go down the W10 route... I may with my desktop (subject to cleansing) just for gaming... But I'll probably run a dual boot with linux and only switch to W10 to actually play a game. Of course... I need to learn linux first as I'm a total noob, but luckily I know a couple of decent experts, coders and programmers in the US who can help me along in that regard. But what are people using now that there's no media centre in W10... and are you using a remote? I tried Kodi, but that can't be triggered from the remote (that I could figure out) and it wasn't as natural as emby is... and now that all of the issues I had resolved and improved... I don't see why I can't stick with emby for now and into new a OS Edited January 28, 2016 by Heckler
