Hello everybody.

I run into a problem today with an anime called "Shomin Sample".

My naming follows Shomin.Sample.S01E01.mkv and obviously this has .sample. in it, which means that the files will be ignored by emby.

Now is there a way that emby still can recognize this structure? (I would like to keep the naming if possible) Also I have no samples in my media folders, so is there an option to turn the ignoring of sample off?

Regards,

Ralf

Hi,

Yes for now it's an open issue.

Basically, there are two feasible procedures in place, to identify sample video files:

  • Naming
Such files usually contain the term "Sample" in the filename
Emby's name parsing library is supposed to be capable of detecting such cases, but at this time and to my knowledge, Emby server does not yet exploit this method for discrimination

  • File size
In the auto-organize settings there is a "minimum file size" value which can be configured.
Video files below that specified size are considered as sample files and will be ignored and excluded form further processing.
This seems to work quite well, so far...

Though, this may lead us to these questions:

  1. Should Emby apply its restriction policies (currently just file-size) for "auto-organize" only, or even for library scanning?
  2. Whether 1. or not 1.: Should we take the naming condition into consideration as an additional factor, and if yes, for auto-organize only,  or rather in a general way for all library processing?

Honestly, I don't have any personal favorite or preference in this case.

Best solution would probably let the user decide about the relevant criterions...
