Change Emby Paths

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'd like to move Emby out of my AppData folder and the following locations:

Cache:
C:\Users\manicjonah\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\cache

Logs:
C:\Users\manicjonah\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\logs

Metadata:
C:\Users\manicjonah\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\metadata

Is this possible?  I don't see a way to do it in Emby Server, did I miss it?  Otherwise can it be done by modifying an XML file?

Thanks,

MJ

You can move the individual cache and metadata locations using the web interface but you can't currently move the entire folder out of app data.

shutdown emby server

move appdata\emby-server to eg. d:\emby-server using eg. explorer

from command prompt in \appdata

mklink /d emby-server d:\emby-server

start emby server

the result as viewed in explorer is a "shortcut" called "emby-server" in \appdata which takes you to d:\emby-server.

you could do the same with individual subfolders..to spread out the load of the application data accross multiple disks... (where there is not an option in web client)

ive never tried it, but it must work as links are invisible to applications.

Thanks guys.  I was just about to update my post when I saw your replies.  Super fast responses, thanks!  I did manage to figure out how to move the cache and transcoding directories.  My plan to "move" the rest was with a symlink (like ginjaninja suggested) but I wanted to check to see if there was a means to do this in the software itself.

Thanks again!

It's probably obvious  but how do you move the location of the "AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\metadata" directory from the gui?

nvm, found it: Library -> Advanced -> Metadata path

Silly me, I was looking under metadata, settings or advanced menu and totaly missed the library one...
