What's very helpful actually is that their website displays suggested file names on the detail screen of each event, and this is in line with my thinking that they should be date based.

I can't believe I missed that. For event https://www.thesportsdb.com/event/2250315-eisbären-berlin-vs-kolner examples of filesnames are:

1) German DEL 2025-04-25 Eisbären Berlin vs Kolner.mkv
2) German DEL 2025-04-25 Eisbären Berlin vs Kolner.S2024-2025E200.mkv
3) German DEL 20250425 Eisbären Berlin vs Kolner.special

One thing that I personally don't like, is the sudden use of numerics in this format.
My personal preference would be the second option because this is the format the "looks" like the tv show formatting most:

2) German DEL 2025-04-25 Eisbären Berlin vs Kolner.S2024-2025E200.mkv

However the above formatting still seems very strange to me. Being more like the TV show formatting does feel more natural and intuitive (at least in my opinion):
Seasonname ({seasondate}) - s{seasonyear}e{episode} - {home} vs {out}

Or in other words:
German DEL (2025-04-25) - s2024-2025e200 - Eisbaren Berlin vs Kolner

This also makes the formatting hierarchy a little more sensible since each step in the file name represents a step, just like tv-show formats do:
X:\Media\Sports\German DEL\German DEL (2025-04-25)\German DEL (2025-04-25) - s2024-2025e200 - Eisbaren Berlin vs Kolner.mkv

There is now a SportsDb plugin in the Emby plugin catalog. It works with the TV content type and file naming based on the recommended file names on the SportsDb event pages. In other words, click on an event and at the bottom you will see suggested file names.

I believe the entire file name gets sent to SportsDb for the lookup, which means you'll need to strictly follow these conventions or it will be unlikely to match.

Enjoy.

How does this integrate people? ie, will my server recognise the Michael Jordan who played for the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s as the same person who starred in Space Jam?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see where there's an option to click on an event. I'm going here: NFL 2024 season Miami Dolphins schedual - TheSportsDB.com, but the only clickable options take me to another page. Nothing takes me to the specific event.

From there I don’t know but on the home page there are events you can click on.

I would think so but you’ll have to just try it.

Can't see it in my Emby - although I'm using the Synology Package centre one, and it's 4.8.8.0-725080800; which I think is very old.  Should I be ditching the Synology one, and finding another version/install?

Just realised that I'm stupid, and that I prviously downloaded and installed it myself, and not from synology package center itself! Problem solved!

I have tried this but people do not pull in.

And when you look at this .nfo file from thesportsdb, it seems to confirm that this not currently in the framework to pull in 😕

HI, that what exactly is not in the "framework to pull in" ?

by that i mean, in the nfo file, there is no player information designed to pull into emby. Which for me is the main draw of thesportsdb. it has such great information but it's getting lost. Ideally the player information and metadata the match page of thesportsdb would pull in as cast information in emby. Thanks for your time.

OK I think this should work with the 1.0.2 update to the sportsdb plugin. Thanks.

Can you explain what the metadata sync process is here? All I could find was naming the file/event properly and all should pull in.

I saw that my plugin updated to 1.0.2 but didn't notice any change.

Separately, I found this nfo generator but I reckon this is a stopgap until the full sync is mapped. https://tsdb.club/nfogenerator.php

Thank you!

Hi Luke, anything on this? regarding the sync process? I have typed in the match id into the emby Identify screen. My hope from here is refreshing the metadata would pull in my aforementioned expectation: active players as cast as well as other metadata from thesportsdb.

Thanks!

Plugin seems mostly functional. Is there any way we can get a configuration option to set an API key for it? I have a thesportsdb API key that I would like to put to use via the plugin, if possible.

Hi, that sounds like a reasonable thing to add.
