Bob 0 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Hi everyone, I really need some help on what I should do. I currently have an HTPC running windows 7 connected to a Synology 8 bay, Denon receiver, Tv, all controlled by a Harmony One. To make a long story short, I suffered a brain injury that has destroyed my short term memory. I built my system prior to the TBI and cannot remember how everything was set up or works. I have tried to figure it out and have done an amazing job of butchering it! Emby still works great but WMC crashes constantly and the dvr function was gone. After some strong suggestions by my wife and daughter I got a Tivo Bolt. It works great as a WMC replacement but I'm not a fan of Plex. I really love EMBY. Now my HTPC is just sitting there along with a new unused Samsung SSD. The old SSD is really small which is why I bought a new one. I want to install everything fresh on the new SSD and start from scratch. Do I need windows? Is there anything better? I am very open to suggestions! I need to keep it simple though. If I start a project I have to finish it in one sitting otherwise it will be gone the next day. Unless of course I take a bunch of notes or have a website that lays everything out in steps with pictures. Thanks Bob
Luke 42078 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Hi Bob, I would suggest jumping in this thread as it sounds like they're discussing the very same things: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/30389-need-help-with-new-build-high-end-htpc-to-help-with-streaming-to-family-and-friends/ Thanks!
Bob 0 Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 I've been watching that thread and it doesn't seem related to what I need. Anyone else? Thanks Bob
xnappo 1611 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Hi Bob, If you are just looking to run Emby - I would suggest getting a Google Nexus Player and installing the Emby app from the store. It is pretty much just plug and play. Setting up Windows for media to play correctly with Emby is a fairly involved process... If you really want to go that route though, I can walk you through the high level steps.
