Turn Off Navigation Sounds?

I cannot seem to figure out how to turn off the (very annoying) ping sounds that have appeared while navigating the interface in the new version of ET.

 

Can someone please enlighten me on how to do so?

just about any device you buy nowadays has these kinds of sounds, so they are not unusual. i'm sure we'll eventually have a setting for it, but I don't expect many will consider them showstoppers. to each their own I suppose.

The sounds are a show stopper? Really?

This is a great app and you're worrying about a beep. It's a bit annoying but it's nowhere near a show stopper.

just about any device you buy nowadays has these kinds of sounds, so they are not unusual. i'm sure we'll eventually have a setting for it, but I don't expect many will consider them showstoppers. to each their own I suppose.

 

The thing is people use a HTPC because they don't want to use a media "device". With a HTPC people expect to be able to configure and customise their experience not just use it the way someone else decides is good.

 

Not that I really care about the sounds but justifying them as compulsory because other devices uses them makes me concerned about the direction of the project and understanding of the users.

It's in directionals, so anything that triggers them like a remote, have controller out keyboard. Not point and click with the mouse

Just start a movie, then stop it... No more navigation sounds.

Configurable sounds would be great. With MB2 you could just stick some wav files in theme folder and they would be used in preference to the defaults.

 

If this was a feature in ET you could then replace them with a couple of silent wav files.

When my wife says "All that beeping is annoying. I won't use it if keeps beeping like that", then yes its a show stopper.

 

TBH, I'm a little surprised that people are OK with the beeping (and not being able to turn it off). One of the reasons I started using MB years ago was the ability to configure it exactly as I wanted. Still hopeful it will remain that way...

Actually, navigation sounds were put in with the first systems that respond to a remote control (WMC has them as well).

 

The reason is that there are a lot of possible points of failure in the communication between your remote and the program so having some audible feedback that your remote command was received lets you know that it was.

 

That is why you see them in most devices now.

I am actually annoyed that on the Xbox One you have no option to turn off the sounds. It's a pretty standard feature in every device that I own to turn off the navigation sounds. Nexus player, PS3, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku all allow you to do this.

I tend to do the same. They are very annoying. Didn't know that about the XBOX One. Was thinking of buying one but if I can't turn off the navigation sounds, I might spend my money elsewhere.

Well, hopefully they will fix that in a future update. Fingers crossed!

Yes, but in WMC you can turn them off in the options. There should definitely be an option to switch them off, family that can't stand bings and bongs when using stuff and moan about it constantly soon makes you find an alternative.

+1 to that. I'd certainly like to have the option to turn them off. All those ping, ping, ping sounds as you navigate the UI can get a little annoying. I'm sure we'll get an option eventually.

Yes, but WMC had been around for a while.  This app just hit in beta .  Options are the last thing we attempt to implement and then only when the default simply cannot handle the mass majority.  I imagine this option will exist at some point.
