Folder structure question

I've read the wiki and just have a quick question on folders. I know it says I HAVE to have my TV shows all in one giant folder, but I don't currently, and it's half working. I use Emby for my TV, but on my PC I still just use Windows Explorer to choose my file. I have my TV split into Airing, Anime, and Ended. This helps me to sort newly downloaded files easier.

It seems that only some shows were recognized as shows, and I can't rename others. In the screenshot example, Avatar and Band of Brothers do not have an identify button for me to use. But Battlestar Galactica and Boston Legal were identified and working fine. Also, under Airing, every show is listed as a season.

Is there really no way for me to keep my shows separated like I have? I've been using this method for years and don't much like the idea of having every show in one folder. Thanks.

EDIT: I've given up and just want this to work right now. If there is a way to do this I would still be interested, but for the moment I'm just going to put everything into one folder until I have another option.

Add each sub folder as a separate TV shows library

Is that really the only way to make it work? Guess I'm just not sure how certain shows work perfectly fine, but other don't get recognized as a show.

You don't have to have all your shows in one folder at all.  My TV is spread across a couple of drives and is fine.  What you can't do is have episodes of one single show spread across two different drives.  For example:

C:\TV\Family Guy\Season 01

D:\TV\Family Guy\Season 02

This would cause you to probably see to different Family Guy shows in your TV library.

On the other hand:

C:\TV\Family Guy\Season 01

C:\TV\Family Guy\Season 02

D:\TV\Buffy The Vampire Slayer\Season 01

That would work just fine.  Family guy on one drive, Buffy on the other.  Of course you should generally use UNC pathing but you get the idea.

From your screenshot I suggest making sure your libraries are set to the TV type and that your episodes are all properly named and organized according to the wiki.

The shows were all set to type: TV and still had no option to identify. I may play with it later on but it was causing me such a headache that I ended up putting every show into one folder. It's ugly as all hell to me, but it seems to work in Emby now without me having to edit each show/season.

Another option might be to have multiple TV libraries (Airing, Anime, Ended) instead of a single root library (TV). If you decided to go this route you may need to edit the display preferences to not group the multiple TV libraries to a single view.

That is what I was saying
