pir8radio 1312 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Just curious, how does emby decide that it should direct stream something? I only ask because i just noticed on the dashboard that something was direct streaming to a remote internet user.. My server sits behind a revers proxy but user IP's are forwarded to emby.. So Emby should be able to see by the remote IP weather or not a user is local.. So I was just curious what factors emby "looks" at before it serves up a direct stream.
ebr 16187 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 The capabilities of the device vs. the content of the media item.
pir8radio 1312 Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 @@ebr so it has nothing to do with bandwidth or that the device is on the local network or not? So Emby could try to direct stream a high bitrate movie to someone on dialup? I'm just trying to understand...
Luke 42083 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I would take a look at our wiki on transcoding which discusses many of the factors that go into the decision making process: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Transcoding 1
