Stop following show in Upcoming

Recommended Posts

I've got a few shows that I no longer watch and do not wish to follow but they just keep showing up in my Upcoming Tab.  Starting to get very annoying...is there no way to remove shows from the list?  No ability to right click the show in the Tab and ask it to stop following it?

I think it was suggested that clicking the "unlike" button on a show should prevent it appearing in any suggestion lists. I'm not sure if this is actually the case though.

Hmm, why not just have an "unfollow" option in shows that populate in the upcoming tab?  I still enjoyed the show, so why would I "unlike" it?  Just because I don't care to follow it anymore doesn't mean I didn't like it.

There are about 4 or 5 shows that I'd like to X off the list, but for example, one show is The Daily Show.  I was a big fan of Jon Stewart so I naturally watched the show, but not really into it anymore since he left.  I love the episodes I have but just simply don't want to follow it anymore...

So I can't just "untick" it from whatever the source it calls from populate that Tab?  Where is that source from BTW?

Arghhh, the simplest task can sometimes be so frustrating in Emby...

Nothing on this then?

This would be a feature request for "unfollowing" content that you still contain in your library.

I think adding yet another class of selection and, hence, needing another button to have to press is over-complicating the issue.

I still think we should just use the existing like system for this.

So I have to unlike a show that I like but don't wish to follow?  Doesn't that kind of throw out the entire purpose of liking?  When a media file is "liked" then suggestions populate in the other tabs and "unliking" would effect that feature.  SMH...makes no sense to me...but who knows...good chance I'm in the minority here.  I don't think it's over-complicating it at all...just another option to to be able to choose from...I'm no programmer so I can't speak to the difficulty of implementing it, but sounds like a common-sense option to me..

...just another option to to be able to choose from...

That is actually the problem.

Too many options complicates (and clutters) the interface for the user.  We add this option, then another one someone else wants, then two more and you end up with one of those universal remotes with 264 buttons on it that no one could possible figure out how to use :).

So, we have to come to a solution that doesn't require the user to look at too many choices and, in as many instances as possible, make no choice necessary.

I do think the op has a point here. Sometimes it would be nice to stop a show appearing in suggestions and next up.

Perhaps just an additional option in the slideup menu in the WebUI would be sufficient. So, it wouldn't be cluttering up any apps or the basic WebUI when browsing.

Maybe one of these icons could be used (to indicate that the show is locked or unlocked for suggestions & next up) - the default being unlocked:

It could look like this:

I'm not sure how "locked" relates to whether or not this item should appear in next up.

My basic point is we have to be very careful about how many of these new options are created.  They need to be widely needed and extremely clear what they are.  Maybe it turns out this is one of those but I'm not convinced of that yet.  In any case, a lock doesn't convey to me what the OP is after and that is another example of where we have to be careful.  To you, obviously, that made sense but I don't think it would to most people.  We have to find something that is clear to 90+% of people if we are going to add another icon-based option.

In MBPlus (which had a sophisticated next up type of functionality) I had added the ability to "forget" a series which would make it stop showing up in these lists.  I think that is basically what he OP is asking for but even in MBPlus, I think that was only used by me and one or two other people because most people either never discovered it or didn't know what it meant.

I completely understand the concern about overcrowding and over complicating the UI.  I can see that being a valid concern.  I personally love the ability to fine tune anything and would welcome a huge selection of options, but as you said, it may not be many that embrace that.  Maybe one compromise would be to have all those myriad options, but then during the Emby setup process (and/or in the settings area), you can decide which tools/options would populate a right-click menu box. Something similar to Firefox's options button that let's you customize which tools populate the drop-down menu.  That would give us tweakers the opportunity to personalize away, meanwhile, the average user may be able to access some standard features without having to be overwhelmed with options...

Kind of leave the current features/options for the standard user experience, but create an "advanced customization" subset of options that can be added/subtracted for those of us who would like to personalize Emby even further...

Using @@AdrianW image examples, having the ability to select which icons populate the shaded option window that comes up when the mouse moves over the poster/thumb from a larger option selection sub menu.  For example, maybe someone just wants the ability to see the "check" mark and not any other, or just the "check" and "heart", etc...hope I'm not sounding too confusing.

....just my 2 cents...

I know this is an old post but i'm also someone who would like to be able to unfollow certain shows, my reasoning is pretty similar as diaz. I like the show but i just lost interest for it atm i might watch more of it at another time but just not now

I guess i'm kinda weird like that that when i constantly see it staring me in the face that i just refuse to watch it until i want to, wich will probably take a long time since i keep getting it pushed on me.

Atm we have the option of selecting a show there and choosing:

- add to collection

- add to playlist

- group versions

- mark as played

- mark as not played

- renew metadata

- sync

Personally i think add to collection, add to playlist, group versions don't really apply to a show but i guess they are just in place everywhere (for convenience i don't know?) but adding stop following would be nice. Also as you pointed out standard users don't like to see tons of options i doubt they go see those options much if at all. So maybe it's possible to add the option there?

Anyway srry for bringing this old thread back to life but thought it would be nice to let you know there is atleast one other person out there that would like the option :)
