Fire Tv - Get line on top of picture (Live TV)

Does anyone else have this problem?  My setup: I am running the Emby server on the raspberry pi connected to an HDHomerun Extend, which is doing the transcoding work.  When running the client on the fire tv, the entire picture looks fine except for a small thin flickering horizontal line across the top of the picture.  I am getting this through my Emby setup but not when I use the HDHomerun client outside of Emby.  I also sidel oaded the regular android app and I also get the same result.  Any ideas on how to correct this?

Thank you.

Is it an SD channel?

Sounds like the "data line" that old TVs blocked out with overscan and the HDHR app probably is too.

It's probably SD.  I think I will mess around with the extend transcoding settings.  This is probably not happening on the HDHR app because it's using an HD profile whereas I am forcing the Extend to do the transcoding and it's taking my default mobile low res setting.  I will see what happens after I make that change.  The funny thing though is I don't get that line on SD channels through my antenna when using the TV tuner?

Because pretty much all TV systems have overscan built into them to hide it from you.  Our app, though is displaying pixel for pixel.  I may just need to build in some overscan for Live TV.

I just changed my profile on the HDhomerun to internet540 and the line is now gone - although the app is still calling for the mobile profile on my HDHomerun Extend  - strange.  I also rebooted the server on the pi. Seems ok now (line is gone) and I'll report back as I continue testing.  So maybe this was just a glitch? I am currently doing this on my network and the next step is to go over the internet using the fire tv at a remote location.

A few other things I noticed:

  • I had to change my streaming rate down to 5 Mbs/second to get the fire tv app to work properly on my TV.  Maybe the pi as a server can't handle the higher bandwidth?  When set to auto, I have problems:  pixelation and still frame pictures although the pi is not transcoding.
  • The android app on phone does not work when signed in over the internet on another network. I cannot get the connection and I am using emby connect.  My pi is getting an IPv6 address however and I read someone else this may be a bug / issue and I need to use IPv4?
  • Finally, outside of this thread, when I access the sever via the we interface on a Win 10 PC and play live tv, the pi is attempting transcode even when I have my user set to not transcode the stream.  Doesn't seem to be picking up the user profile settings.  (Essentially, the pi can't handle transcoding.)

Note: the reason for this setup is that I am trying to get TV in an remote location without using a server.  Keeping this setup low power on purpose.

Edit:  If you do put an overscan adjustment in, if you can, please make it adjustable and/or be able turn it off or on, or maybe have it be adjustable by channel.  Thanks for the help BTW!

I can confirm I get the overscan line too on SD channels.  It would be nice if you could have some intelligence in the app to remove this.
