The old ET app is still free and is still available.  This new one requires premium for media playback at this time.

Why should I need to pay for premium service in order to play my local content stored on my local home network?  I could understand paying for the premium to gain access to my content when I'm mobile but to play content stored locally.  REALLY!?

Oh, and I love the message it returns.  If you have Emby Premier, just sign in with Emby Connect or connet to your Emby Server using you local network connection.    I AM CONNECTED TO MY LOCAL NETWORK!

Old version can be found:  http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/29908-previous-version/

I just stumbled on it in another forum.

You don't have to.  Every OS I know of comes with a media player and codec sets aren't that hard to install.  You don't need Emby to play your media.

Emby server is free and will allow you to setup your libraries, setup metadata, playback your media, etc.

The only thing costing you any money in this situation is using this specific client which is absolutely in no way required.  There are multiple other options, free and not, to playback your media on every platform that ET supports today and is expected to support in the future.  If you don't like this one, don't buy it.
