Library scans slooooow

Hello, for the last couple of months the library scan has taken at least an hour to run for me and if I have new media, upwards of three hours.

 

During a scan performance is affected, mostly in that it can take several minutes for the home screen to populate fully with the media folders and clicking on the button top left only shows home, manage server, user options, reports, etc again no media entry points

 

The common recommendation has been to disable musicbrainz but I don't want to do that, I want to help you fix the problem properly as we are encouraged to do! What can I really do to find out which artists, albums, whatever are causing this? I've requested that missing music brains id be added as a filter, is that the best way of tracking these rogues down?
