NVisme 0 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I just got the new emby theater, but when trying to watch a video it tells me I need emby premiere. What is the deal? Do I have to pay to watch any of my media now?

speechles 2055 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 For non premiere users you could always throw two banner ads top and bottom of display at all times, and then force an interstitial video advertisement to play at 5/15 minute intervals. This would make people realize the difference between freemium and premium. Theater is a premium app. If you want the free version luke has given it. There was a term "lamer" used long ago on irc when people would beg developers for free software. These people would also use the word "lame" when told it wasnt free. I really get annoyed with entitled users who want something for nothing. The world doesn't work that way... End rant.

That's real shitty Luke, at least put a note on the update notification or when you first go to install the new version. I was considering paying for it a few times due to the fact it has never done me wrong, but that's a low blow that has me reconsidering, especially when there are other options about that have never pulled such a stunt, even if it wasn't intentional. I understand you are devs and you are looking for some income from it, but not that way. At least give a notification. Even on the download link via the website if you must. If not free, does that mean it will be expensive to put it on other laptops of other members in the family, as there are five of us. I was avoiding putting the old ET on the other computers as I thought I could put the new version on for free. I guess we can all use the Windows 10 app or access from a browser, but ET would have been much nicer. Edit - or do I not have to worry if premiere is registered with the server - we just put ET on all the laptops and it'll work fine because the server it 'attaches' to has Premiere ? Luke 42077 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 I have also pushed an update to the previous version that reduces the frequency of the messages about the new app. This way people who haven't seen it yet will hopefully have a better experience.
