Can someone tell me what I am missing as I am sure its something simple.   I am attempting to open magazines (pdf format) in emby using WMC.   I have installed  the bookshelf plugin, configured my folders and added the media folder to the server via the library tab.  I have also rescanned my media.  When I open emby, I can see the magazine folder but when I click on it, there is nothing there.  When I look at the folder in the web app I can see the folders for the 3 magazines I created.  I did read this

MediaBrowser Classic

In order to view books on MBC you will need to install the client plugin for MB Bookshelf. It is available for download from the MB Classic configurator. Once installed there is no configuration necessary, just click your book and the plugin will pass the request to the operating system. You will need to have an appropriate viewer installed. Users are free to use their favorite programs but I recommend Calibre for epub/mobi & ComicRack for cbz/cbr.

" but I am unable to locate where or how i download  the client plugin from.

Currently, I am using wmc version 3.0.296.0   Server version    3.0.5785.0

Any thoughts on what I am missing?   Thanks for any help

You need to log-in to EMC with a user that is an admin on the server to be able to see the administrative options in EMC (so your kids can't mess with your plug-ins).

While you are in there, remove the MBPlus-Classic plug-in and that message will go away.

okay, I got it working  but I do have one last question.   When it opens the magazine, it opens it outside of media center.  is that how it was designed?   can it open in media center?  I was hoping to be able to use my remote to 'flip' the pages, while in Emby

again, Thanks for the time spent

Yeah, sorry.  I don't believe WMC ever had any support for books.

It does actually. It's been 2 years since I wrote the plugin so who knows what's changed on either Classic or Server. I'll try and install the client plugin this afternoon and see if it's currently broken.

Ah, okay.  I stand corrected.

Thx, Red.

Missed this comment when I replied to ebr.

Bookshelf on the client doesn't have any internal readers. It just passes the play request to the OS. That allows users to install any reader they like. Reading books is more something that the mobile clients would be better for. There it's no big deal to switch to an external program. The only reason the WMC plugin was created was mostly for people to check out their comics on the TV.

  • PDF
  • EPUB
  • MOBI
  • FB2

  • CBR

Please try it out once available and report your experience in the Testing Area of the community:
