Jhyrachy 1 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) Hi! I was wondering a thing: Since i travel a lot, i want to bring with me a setup to share films locally and offline. What i need is that emby, once properly scraped the metadata, will works even without an internet connection (let's say a local hotspot made by the server itself). Can it do it or emby requires a connection on startup? Also, With kodi file sharing (that use UpNp) if i switch from the local hotspot to a local network (let's say i unplug the wifi connector and i plug in the ethernet), i can connect to my files without any change to any configuration file, i just need to connect to the other network. Also, does this works with kodi using the emby plugin? Since I'm a noob and english is not my first language, i made a draw: Can i do this with emby, right? Edited January 12, 2016 by Jhyrachy
ebr 16187 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 It should work fine, although, if you require any Premiere features, you will need to allow the server to get out to the internet at least periodically (every few days I believe). 1
bluemonkey07 590 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) The emby for kodi plugin needs to know the ip address of the server It will not automatically update , it will require some manual interaction. This may change in the future if it supports emby connect...but emby connect requires internet connection i think Edited January 12, 2016 by Vidman
NomadCF 15 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 It should work fine, although, if you require any Premiere features, you will need to allow the server to get out to the internet at least periodically (every few days I believe). Why is this ? Why does a open source application need such a DRM system ? I'm really getting worried at the direction this project is going with this DRM and other payed wall features. And this from a person who has bought a few lifetime "Emby Premiere" for friends and family.
Tur0k 148 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 (edited) Well, I am pretty new to Emby, but I am pretty good with networking. I can't speak to the phone home configuration related to your Emby Server instance and Emby.media to confirm your emby server's subscription. As related to the Kodi addon for Emby, and your Emby Server, in order to configuring Emby for Kodi you have to connect to an IP address and port number. this means that if your Emby Server's IP address changes you have to re-configure the emby for kodi application in each instance of kodi. you could address this problem by purchasing a portable router, and setting up a subnet on it that mirrors your home router's subnet. then, you would be able to connect your Emby Server to the portable router and configure the same static IP address or DHCP Reservation that your Emby Server uses on your Home network. See example below. portable router subnet: 192.168.0.1/24 Home Router IP Address: 192.168.0.1 static IP address of Emby Server: 192.168.0.2 all other Clients: DHCP home router Subnet 192.168.0.1/24 Home Router IP Address: 192.168.0.1 static IP address of Emby Server: 192.168.0.2 all other Clients: DHCP I will say that without an Internet connection Emby connect logins will not work when you disconnect your emby server from your home router. Hi, yes Emby Connect does require an internet connection, however Emby Connect is also optional and you can still log into your server without it. Does that help clear anything up? 1
