Image bug in 3.0.5785.0

I found that in the latest stable release 3.0.5785.0 manually selected images are not retained through a media scan. I have one video that does not assign a cover image, so I clicked "edit images" for that title and manually downloaded the image. The newly downloaded image then shows until the next media scan, when it again disappears and I need to reassign this. I have not noticed this problem with earlier versions, although I simply may not have been paying close attention to this.

Do you enable saving in media folders, or no?

If you are referring to the option to "Save artwork and metadata into media folder", the option is NOT checked.

Luke, any update on this issue. I am seeing this also on my second test server running the latest dev versionĀ 3.0.5856.29522.

i haven't seen it myself. have you specified a custom metadata path?

I was having this issue and I solved it by making sure there were no images in the videos folder before the scan and letting the scan retrieve the images, I had a few images with the movie that would take precedence over the one I was downloading.

No, I have not. All metadata is stored in the standard paths under %appdata%.

I was having this issue and I solved it by making sure there were no images in the videos folder before the scan and letting the scan retrieve the images, I had a few images with the movie that would take precedence over the one I was downloading.

The problem is that for this particular movie, the scan finds the background image but not the DVD cover. When I add the DVD cover manually through the emby interface, the cover image gets removed on the next scan. All images are done automatically from emby. I am not trying to override by adding my own images to the video directories.

Just updated to v3.0.5817.0 and the problem still persists. Again, is there any I can do to help resolve this?

can you try refreshing one of the affected titles? thanks.

ah, I think we solved it. So I loaded a primary image and then did a refresh and the primary image was gone again. The I went into edit images and DELETED the empty primary image. Then I did another refresh and a new primary image was automatically assigned. This image seems to stick through a rescan process. After this I was also able to manually assign the custom image and this now too seems to stick through a refresh. So I think this one is solved. Thanks a bunch for the pointer.

Unfortunately the issue returned on the same movie. I must not have tested thoroughly enough. Anything else I can try?

if you open the detail page you'll see the id on the query string in the browser.

Ā

please open the server's program data folder, then navigate to /metadata/library. Then locate the sub-folder for that id. First there will be a folder based on the first two characters, then another layer with the full id. please post a screenshot of the contents of the folder. thanks.

The screenshot is attached. Looking at these images, the poster.jpg one looks like the primary that shows when I delete the primary image and then do a refresh. The folder.jpg looks like the one I previously manually downloaded.

try downloading it again. the issue is that poster.ext takes priority #1, but it was saving as folder.ext, so later on a refresh would restore poster as the primary image.

I am actually fine with either image showing, the problem is that none of them were displayed leaving a completely black tile on the movie selection screen.

Ā

The funny thing is that now that I did the refresh, the tile shows with the poster.jpg image. I did a scan and a clean database and the image is still there. This is when I marked the issue as fixed as few days ago.Ā

Ā

However, I am pretty confident that by tomorrow or so the tile image will disappear again. Nothing I can do now but I will report back when that happens.Ā

Ā

Thanks for your patience.

poster gets priority over folder. the bug that was occurring before was that the downloading process was saving as folder but the scanning process was picking poster. So at some point down the line when the content is rescanned, it reverts back to poster. In the new release the download process has been changed to save as poster. So if you download again that will correct the issue permanently.

Ā

If you want to try to find a way to automate this, what you could do is a mass rename of all folder.ext to poster.ext underneath the server's metadata/library folder, and then run a library scan.

After it was working yesterday, today the image is gone again. Please see attached screenshot. The content of the metadata folder is unchanged, the time stamps on the images is the same as yesterday. Now what?

Luke, please see post above. Do you have any other ideas what could be causing the problem to return? Initially it seemed to have been the media scan that caused it but that appears to be fixed. Something else must be running overnight that causes the primary image to disappear (even though the image folder.jpg and poster.jpg images are still in the database. Thank you.

As a test, can you try a new movie and see if it exhibits the same behavior as your existing ones?

Also, did you rename files? If so, can you show me a screenshot of what that folder looks like now? Thanks.

Ā

I added a new movie and that movie, just like all other movies, shows all images including the primary image. For the new movie the following files were added to the metadata library: backdrop.jpg, landscape.jpg, poster.jpg, and logo.png.

I did no manually renaming at any time. The current folder content for the problem movie is shown in the attached snapshot.

Ā

I do have the same issue of my emby dev server, which is running the most current version as of today (3.0.5873.24362). On the dev server the corresponding meta data folder contains only the image backdrop.jpg and folder.jpg for that movie.

Ā

The stable server has coverart installed, so dev server runs without any plugins.

Ā

I hope this helps.

Not sure I understand. What do I need to do?

try renaming folder to poster, or if they're both there, delete folder
