Luke 42077 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 The new server beta allows you to change the location of the server cache folder. Only the cache subfolder underneath programdata. Please try it out. It hasn't had much testing so I'm relying on you guys. Changing the setting will not migrate or delete any existing files. 1

Hi files that been moved are few KB even after leaving them for full day so not sure what to report Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 In the old version it was very beneficial to use RAM Disk for the cache.. Would this still be the case in MB3 Server? And if yes, would it be much faster to use RAM Disk than just SSD? Thanks! we haven't bench-marked so you try it and tell us
Bandits 12 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I guess I am the only one that moves the mediabrowser-server directory where ever I want it. Just edit the MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe.config file changing the following line <add key="ReleaseProgramDataPath" value="%ApplicationData%" /> to <add key="ReleaseProgramDataPath" value="..\..\" /> Makes the program basically stand alone. I have to use this fix as I use roaming profiles on a remote hidden share and have never been able to keep the server in my AppData\Roaming folder. I am sure someone will say I shouldn't do this but I have not had one issue running the server like this. 1

Ideally it would be nice to release a portable version alongside the installed one. Just haven't gotten around to automating that process.
politby 88 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Okay, I installed a spare 64GB SSD in my server and set the custom cache path. Now how do I get the server to actually move the cache. A simple restart didn't do it. Do I need to delete the old cache first?
bloodtaker 71 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 odd that your cache is so large i have over 1000 movies all db series, full metal, thunder cats, transformers with image extraction on for chapters the full works turned on and mine is only 6.29gb almost sounds like its duplicating to me but i could be wrong and i usually am lol
bnwbass 3 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 If I change the cache path will this slow down the MB server performance? I have SDD as C: and it's near capacity will this help my issue, but I don't want to sacrifice performance.
Luke 42077 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 you're really the only one who can answer that. give it a shot and see what you think. you might not even notice. if you do then you can always reassess.
bnwbass 3 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Ok, so based on your comment earlier in this post , I just copy the C:\ProgramData\MediaBrowser\Cache directory contents to the new path location and restart server. thx bw
Luke 42077 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 i would just change the setting and do nothing else.
mentasm 43 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I ran out of space a month or so ago and moved a bunch of cache folders of my SSD to a 2Tb disk I store media on. I can notice a smalll perfomance hit. Mostly when opening MBC from WMC. Takes a second or two for all the images to populate. To tell the truth its not so bad really. Once everything is loaded the library navigation is flawless, maybe with the exception of opening the entire movie collection (800+ movies) in coverflow mode. I made the switch before the change was possible via the server console using hardlinks. Same Same but different.
trusselo 225 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 the server cache is located in"C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\cache"copy its contents to the new folder. I moved "ImagesByName" and server "cache" to my movies drive. have not noticed any real difference. M:\Metadata\ImagesByName M:\Metadata\MediaBrowser Cache Images by name is originally located in "C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\ImagesByName" @Luke: i notice that the imagesbyname location setting is located through server settings > Media Library > Settings Tab. and the cache setting is under > Advanced. could these not be grouped together on the same page?
geremye 2 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I have a SSD just for my OS. the Users folder and program data I have on a separate drive. there are several methods out there, this is by far the cleanest/best i have seen. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/124198-user-profiles-create-move-during-windows-7-installation.html This requires you to resinstall windows so its not a quick and dirty fix, but worth doing for those with SSD's regardless if you use MB or not.
Airbender 128 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 copy paste Hello Luke I am looking at my C: drive for MB3 and i find it interesting that cache file is very tiny however MB folder by it self is 9 GB Please see the screenshots as i am trying to figure out copy and paste which files off all these files Thanks
Airbender 128 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 So that is normal size files I guess Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
