Traction Tim 11 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 The WAF went down badly last night. Emby server runs on an 8 core AMD FX-8350 pc with 32GB of ram. We were watching the movie Ant Man using a Nexus Player, when around half way through my AV amp started clicking (Usually shows audio glitches), and then the movie stopped. I kept trying to re-start the movie from the Nexus Player, but eventually realised (after rebooting the server and Nexus Player etc) that most of my movies were missing in Emby. There are six folders within my Emby Movies, and I could see them on the server pc (via Windows Explorer), but most of them had gone missing within Emby. I could see 98 out of approx 278 movies - I had to re-scan within Emby to get them back. Just to make matters worse, I then found that the Nexus Player had failed as well. It couldn't even re-join the wifi network. I had to get a different Nexus Player to finish off the movie. Timeline looking at the Emby dashboard logs: 2/1/2016 21:08 Tim has stopped playing Ant Man 2/1/2016 21:15 Tim has started playing Ant Man - the trouble starts here. I try logging in to Emby with various devices. 2/1/2016 22:09 Tim has started playing Ant Man - I think this is where I got it going again after re-scanning the Emby libraries and replacing the Nexus Player. So, can you tell me if the attached logs give a clue what happened ? Did the Nexus Player cause Emby to crash, or if there is something wrong in my system ? The failed Nexus Player is well broken, and today cannot even pair with its controller after a factory reset. Extra info: My Bluray movies are ripped to hard disk folders using AnyDVD. The log file appears to show that I was transcoding Ant Man, but surely I don't need to ? Am I doing something wrong that is putting an unnecessary load on the system ? server-63587289600.txt transcode-4fc7db8e-67dc-4dfb-be38-b30b718c19a4.txt
Traction Tim 11 Posted January 3, 2016 Author Posted January 3, 2016 One Nexus player now returned as failed. I managed to get the remote paired again, but then it still couldn't re-join my wifi, and I have three SSID's to choose from that all work with my mobile phone (and two other Nexus Players). A wifi only media player that doesn't work on wifi is as much use as a chocolate teapot I originally had one in the kitchen, and I liked it so much with Emby, that I picked two more of them up at Xmas for £50 each at Argos. PS> We enjoyed Ant Man !
ebr 16169 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 So, there wasn't really an Emby issue here, correct? This was a device failure of some sort? As for the transcoding, the NP cannot direct play folder rips so, yes, those would have been transcoded.
Traction Tim 11 Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 Hi, Yes, I did have a hardware failure of a Nexus Player, but I also lost the Emby library at the same time, and had to re-scan it to get all of my movies back. Tricky stuff after a few alcoholic beverages ! As for the transcoding, the NP cannot direct play folder rips so, yes, those would have been transcoded. Do you know what the best format for bluray rips is for the NP ? I would prefer it didn't transcode if possible.
ebr 16169 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 MKV or MP4 with h264 video and AAC or DD or DTS audio. AAC would be the most compatible with everything. 1
