Eug7 0 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Been using Plex for years. Heard about Emby just couple of days ago. Already installed and casting. One thing about Plex I could never find resolution on and no answer on their forum site is missing music artist picture. Whether or not the data base for some reason doesn't contain the artist or the material is non commercial. Be nice to either through meta or a jpg in the folder. So, it's repeatable. If I have to rebuild the library for some reason the info is already there. I have too many missing artists to manually go through it every time. Is there a way?
Luke 42078 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Hi there, welcome. Just trying to get an understanding of what you're asking. Are you saying you have images in your folders, but the server isn't using them?
Eug7 0 Posted January 3, 2016 Author Posted January 3, 2016 Hi Luke, thanks for the response. I'm asking how to do it. In Album Artist view the band "Gary Puckett and the Union Gap" has no artist picture. I can snag one off a Google search. So, how do I either add it to metadata or to the folder so that it will scrape and find it and so that if I have to in the future rebuild the library it's there? Better question...is there a way to embed (metadata) Album Artist pictures? As I continue to use Emby more I'm sure I'll have more questions. Thanks.
Luke 42078 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Hi, yes you can do this in the web interface by editing and uploading your own images, or selecting ones to download from the internet. You can do this for music artists and albums. Does that answer your question?
Eug7 0 Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Luke, can you go one step further. If I put a JPG in the album folder for front cover what to I name it? If I put a JPG in the album folder or artist folder for artist picture what do I call it so Emby knows to pick it up as the artist? Do you have examples?

Luke 42078 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Yup! https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Music%20naming folder.ext and cover.ext should both be fine
Eug7 0 Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Luke, but...which one is applicable to "Album Artist" and "Artist"?
Luke 42078 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 those related artists are not based on folders but instead on tags, so for those you should use the web interface to customize your images.
Eug7 0 Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Too many across my entire multiple music libraries to change each and every one manually. And as I stated in the OP next time I have to recreate a library it has to be done all over again. So, seems this is a dead end.

And as I stated in the OP next time I have to recreate a library it has to be done all over again. So, seems this is a dead end. not exactly because the related artist images are saved in a location that is easy to backup, under the server's program data folder then /metadata/artists. you could manually place images into there and/or back it up for future restoration.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 If you store your metadata with the media folders it will also dump a lot of the relevant data there. That gets all my Album art, metadata XMLs, and almost all Album Artists covered and it's backed up automatically with my standard music backup routine.
Eug7 0 Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Hmmm...then what about this, I just thoght about, will and NFO do what I want? Is there a way to setup and NFO to point to and set the artist picture?

Is there a way to setup and NFO to point to and set the artist picture? The NFOs for the artists will get saved in the folder Luke listed and if you are backing that path up you're also getting the pics at the same time so there's no need to edit anything in that scenario. Technically it looks like you could though. There is an image path in the XML that you could presumably edit.
Eug7 0 Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 not exactly because the related artist images are saved in a location that is easy to backup, under the server's program data folder then /metadata/artists. you could manually place images into there and/or back it up for future restoration. This is not practical to me. I will always have my media library but the server program probably not due to reinstall or whatever. Here's the deal, Plex id's 166 artists in my music library, Emby ID's 144. Of the 144 there are 14 missing artists or 10%. Plex misses maybe 3 or 4. I thought Emby might be the ani-Plex with better ID tools and better server controls but apparently not. Plex doesn't use NFO. Emby does but (admittedly I'm aware of NFO but don't know how to implement). A few things that makes no sense with Emby. It makes you wonder if the designers even use it the same way a customer would want to sit down, relax and just play media. 1. Every library view defaults to suggestion instead of movies or album or artist. I see no settings to change this behavior. This is just stupid. Click, click, click everywhere to do stuff. 2. Library view is limited to 100 objects per page. Then you have to get to the bottom and click some more. 3. No global setting for libraries to poster card view or whatever. You have to set each library individually and if you have multiple webviews on different PC's or the app you have to change each library manually. 4. Out of network Android app no access for a couple of days of trying. Got on the forum saw something about install the beta. So I did and then I had access. But the next day I had no access. Cannot connect message. 5. The Android app is extremely slow when compared to the Plex app. I mean, practically unusable. Emby is not ready for prime time. Shows lots of promise and some capability is exceptional but too many buggy issues. Too many misfires. Library accuracy is not as good as Plex. Plex is closed Emby is open which I believe means you guys can out maneuver Plex but some implementation is head scratching like local trailers. If you have multiple trailers you wouldn't know it cause Emby doesn't display the trailers so you can't pick and choose what to play. I could go on and on. My advice, perfect the essential features like rock solid library creation. Likes, dislikes, ratings, rotten tomatoes who cares about that stuff if library scarping is not up to snuff. Don't make the mistake Plex makes and never fix the most basic functions but put their creative heads in the stratosphere inventing features and capabilities nobody wants or needs. Watch this guys youtube. He makes some good points concerning useless stuff on MB3 like the default to suggestions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-h4BqRrUuu8
