Guide not showing on ROKU, have subscription

Recommended Posts

I have schedules direct subscription. TV Guide works fine in Emby, also on phone etc. However, on the ROKU Emby app, it still limits me to 3 channels on the Guide saying "Full use of TV Guide requires supporter membership"

Any ideas?

If you have a premier subscription, trying signing out of the app all together and then re enter the server info and sign back in.

so wait...   if i am a supporter on my server...   will it register on my out of home roku clients?    Like my family members that dont live within the same network?     I sure hope this isn't a start to making the clients pay.....   I'm willing to pay for the server, ONCE... but not force my users to pay for their clients....

@@pir8radio This only affects "Live TV". Also, you aren't forced to do anything, everything is voluntary. Don't rush to place blame, when this is how it has always been. It's a little late to complain now and etc.

url = GetServerBaseUrl() + "/Plugins/SecurityInfo"

This is the endpoint the roku is checking to see if you are an active supporter.

It appears, as long as the server belongs to an active supporter the roku client will choose the 80 channel limit, rather than the 3.

In reference to validating the substitution on a phone or tablet, it needs to be validated on the local lan once and then it remembers that. I don't know if that also applies to roku as well..

@@speechles  ok.. lol  i didn't know it was always like that... i think I'm thinking what @@mjktg99 is talking about, i downloaded the new emby app on my iphone and to my surprise nothing worked, without first connecting it to my local network... which made me wonder, are all of my phone/tablet users now forced to pay for something that they didn't before?  I cant invite them all over to connect to my server on the local network!  :-)      I guess when i read this thread i was thinking roku was the same!  Phew glad its not,  so roku can validate supporter status remotely....  good info... lol sorry if i always seem trigger happy...   ^_^     FYI i have supported a few times, and will continue to "support"...  I just don't want my users to have to as well..

That is because the workflow for these apps is different for each platform.

The apps you mention have to be "unlocked" for these to provide playback for more than a minute. This "unlocking" of course must be done locally, not remotely.

The roku workflow will be "locked" when connecting to a non-premier emby server. The "lock" only affects guide channel limit of live-tv channels. It allows playback of everything else unlimited. When connected to a server with an active emby premier license key this "unlocks" live-tv. Until the roku workflow changes (which could happen), this makes the roku client more appealing.

I'm already a lifetime supporter, but maybe the team could have a lifetime-unlimited license?  that will allow remote devices full access without having to unlock them?    The alternative is, I have to create a temporary VPN account for activating devices..

Sorry  @ I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

@@pir8radio That is a good idea. Making a new tier: monthly, yearly, single family lifetime, or group lifetime. The group lifetime would be elevated and allow temporary unlock for any client using that server, local or remote, if that elevated token is found. Otherwise, it would require a local server connection for a normal lifetime single family user if the non elevated token is found. The pricing model for the "group" option should slide for non-profit (school,church,boy/girl scout troops,etc) and contact information to make these accomodations posted prominently. This would indeed make emby different than the other guys.
