shepP 7 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I'm getting tearing with the internal player with an h264 video in an mp4 container. The video players fine in windows media player. If I use MPC-HC and turn on v-sync it fixes the problem in MPC-HC, however you can't set MPC-HC as an external player to play .mp4 as it messes up video backdrops. The video still tears with MBT. The same thing is happening to my backdrop video theme videos as they are in mp4 as well. Turning on AERO by using an AERO theme fixes the issue however it creates problems with TMT 5 player so I can't use this as a permanent solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. System is HD6450 video card, icore3 2100 with 8 gigs ram.
pagali 62 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I get that same tearing with all videos with the MBT internal player. I have the same video card and comparable AMD cpu. All other players play flawlessly.
shepP 7 Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 It probably has something to do with the LAV filters, but I'm not smart enough to figure it out
pagali 62 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I use the same LAV Filters daily, with MPC-HC and ZoomPlayer, with never a problem--have since they first came out; medium levels of MadVR also. If they can do it, we know MBT can too! It'll just take a while to get optimized to that point.
shepP 7 Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 Thanks for the info. If it's just a case of something being tweaked in MBT internal player I'm happy to wait. Amazing work these people have done. Glad to be a supporter!
pagali 62 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) Interesting discovery this evening re: video tearing. Usually I have a RealVNC window open to enable controlling of the htpc and server from a laptop when the remote can't do the job. It's never caused any problems except not allowing windows 7 aero to run. MadVR's exclusive fullscreen mode took the place of aero to prevent tearing on my system, and worked for all video players except MBT. But this evening I didn't have RealVNC running, and decided to try out MBT's internal player again. Lo and behold, no tearing! I tested with a Game of Thrones episode... that opening with all the swirly wheels and swords is a great video test. With MadVR enabled, there was no tearing, but there was pretty marked jerkiness. Without MadVR, the video is as smooth as we could hope. It still has a bit of a flat appearance compared to MadVR's processing, which provides an extra degree of depth and shading I don't see with any other renderer. But! It is watchable, and there are no noticeable flaws! BTW, Lav Video was set to use DXVA-Copyback. I never thought to check this before now because it never caused a problem with any of the other players I've used. But it's a step in the right direction. Edited December 12, 2013 by pagali
joshstix 25 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 ShepP have you tried using the Intel HD graphics at all? I ask because I have the same CPU and using the HD graphics I don't get any tearing with MadVR rendering set with medium performance settings. I do get a few juddery bits though so I'm putting a HD7870 in to crank the MadVR settings up to the max and turn on smoothing though.

You cant have real vnc running, I have an amd A10 5800, and you get tearing and stuttering like crazy if you have a vnc window open. With that said I cant get copyback playing smoothly, i have to set it to none. Edited December 12, 2013 by Ghostm
pagali 62 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Well, all I can say is that RealVNC has been running on my htpc for several years. It's never caused any problems for XBMC, ZoomPlayer, MPC-HC, TMT5, Plex, or VLC. So imagine my surprise!

What are the medium performance setting for madvr that you use? I was avoiding using the intel as for some reason I thought Intel couldn't do 23hz correct. I might upgrade as well if I get this system working to my liking.

I get stuttering with any video personally, as another xbmc user when realvnc window is open it stutters and tears for me until i close it. TmT as well. Not sure why it did not for you. shepP 7 Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Well intel didn't improve anything for my setup. Strange as I was thinking that it would. No VNC installed either.
haxx777 0 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Thanks for the suggestion on using the Aero theme! No more tearing, and I can finally switch from MBC to MBT
shepP 7 Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 I tried again last night with Aero on and thought I had it working however after testing multiple blurays it still doesn't play well with TMT 5 consistently. Looks like I'm going to have to investigate this one futher.
pagali 62 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 ^Isn't this thread primarily about MBT's internal player?

You're right, my appologies to the OP for hijacking his thread about trying to find a way to fix the tearing problem with the internal player without using Aero Edited December 17, 2013 by shepP
