Is there a method to leverage VLC or MPV or mplayer to accelerate play back on linux?

Hi, I'm running emby on an arm server and playback is awesome on samsungtv and on android.

 

I would love to also be able to watch on my Linux PC without transcoding as the arm server can not handle the workload. Are there any ways to use VLC or MPV directly with emby or to enable a browser to use them instead of transcoding?

Hi, welcome. unfortunately browsers can't launch programs. On android we do have a vlc option that the web client can use but that's about it.

What about add ons like 'vlc link' ?

you mean browser add ons? google deprecated npapi plugins in september so the chrome vlc add-on doesn't function anymore
