shoubam 0 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I have installed emby (3.0.5781.5) on a fedora 22 server. So far it works great and I am thankful for this piece of free software. One things bugs me though - I have various movies that feature multiple audio tracks (different languages). Using a standalone player like vlc or mplayer, I can switch the audio track with no problem. However, with emby I cannot influence the audio track played. I have tried to set the default audio language, removed the "Play default audio track regardless of language" tick, and also tried choosing the audio language from the drop down menue within the movie displaying the available audio tracks. Nothing helped. Also, the played language is not consistently the same - I guess that has to do with the track ordering within the movie. Did I miss anything? How can I get this to work?
Luke 42077 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Hi, welcome. Glad you're enjoying .You can change the audio track during playback by clicking the audio icon in the top right-hand corner. If this is not working, then tell us what browser and also please provide the info requested here under media playback issues: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks.
shoubam 0 Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) Hi Luke, the audio icon did not work - using google chrome ( 47.0.2526.80 m) and also mozilla firefox (42.0). It did not work in the way that it displayed correctly the available audio tracks, and clicking on them seemed to cause some action - playback paused for a while. But the audio track did not change. I have attached the log file. Do you also need debug logs? Isaac Log.txt Edited December 18, 2015 by shoubam
shoubam 0 Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 Just in case you need it, I also enabled debug logging and tried to switch audio language. Here is the log. Log.txt
shoubam 0 Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 I see. The files in question are in the mp4 format, and thus can be played directly in the browser. Do I understand correctly that if the files are directly playable in the browser, emby is more of a web based file server, thus not able to change the audio track? So I would need to convert my files into a format not playable by the browser so that emby will transcode and thus be able to change the audio track? Anything else that I could do?

No, this isn't true. You can change using the menu and it will transcode if needed.
Luke 42077 Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Ok, I see what's going on - the file is direct playing in the browser. when this happens, there is currently no way to force the browser to choose a different audio track, which means we're going to have to use transcoding to resolve this. I'll look into it, thanks.
shoubam 0 Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) Thank you for your input - at least now I understand what is going on. I was able to switch audio language after I transcoded manually using HandBrake. However, I feel it should be possible to do this with emby - I edited the generic DLNA profie and removed all suppoted codecs for direkt streaming. Not sure if this is the way to go - if so, how do I choose a profile? Any hints would be appreciated. Edited December 18, 2015 by shoubam
shoubam 0 Posted January 6, 2016 Author Posted January 6, 2016 Luke, not sure if this is related to your contribution, but after installing the latest upgrade, the language switch works now for all files. Thank you for making this possible!
