ElNevera 1 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Hello, My Emby server is using a Celeron 2.9ghz dual core cpu, 8gb Memory. It is running Windows 10 pro, Emby server and Nextpvr. The main usage is via Dlna from my Xbox one. everything being played by the xbox is being transcoded and dvd rips play fine but hd tv recordings and blue ray rips either stutter or just refuse to play. When watching a dvd rip I noticed that my cpu usage was 100% on the server. Is the cpu the bottleneck? Should i look to replace it with an i3 or i5? Thanks Si
legallink 187 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Instead of upgrading the CPU, you could pre-transcode all your media so it just direct plays.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 DVD and Bluray Rips aren't very server friendly. MP4 and MKV are good containers to use.

Is that something that Emby server can do? DVD and Bluray Rips aren't very server friendly. MP4 and MKV are good containers to use. My Films are in mkv containers but I haven't compressed them further. I used to have ES running on an i5 laptop and didn't really get any performance issues but at that point I was using an htpc rather than the xbox one to play media back. I need to return playback/performance back to its former glory. I was thinking of getting a Roku to replace the xbox one as the main client.
Swynol 375 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 celeron is a low powered chip and will be slow struggling with transcoding. i currently use an i3 but looking at an i5 or xeon in the near future. also i would recommend mp4 containers as it is supported natively on more devices.
