kcrandall758 1 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I get the following error when attempting to start emby after a reboot: Unhandled exception: Could not load file or assembly 'ServiceStack.Text, Version 4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest. upon hitting OK, the error goes and emby does not start.
Luke 42083 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 That's very strange. I've never seen that before. If you have an anti-virus installed make sure it didn't delete any server files. There is a new update so I would just install the latest version on top of your existing install.
kcrandall758 1 Posted December 12, 2015 Author Posted December 12, 2015 that worked, although I had to do it twice. the first time it gave an error after running; after the second time, it ran successful - thanks! 1
Morphy 3 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I updated last night and have the same error today: 2016-04-04 16:38:54.3905 Error Main: UnhandledException *** Error Report *** Version: 3.0.5912.0 Command line: C:\Users\AM1\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe -service Operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Processor count: 4 64-Bit OS: True 64-Bit Process: True Program data path: C:\Users\AM1\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server Application Path: C:\Users\AM1\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe Could not load file or assembly 'ServiceStack.Text, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Morphy 3 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Ok so I've redownloaded the installer and disabled avast as suggested in another thread and it seems it had to download an update to .net framework. After rebooting I got an I/O error when backing up the emby dir. Now Emby has not launched as a service for some reason. Not sure what's going on but it seems to be working ok now. I'm going to look at the auto updater script and also maybe even a fresh install when I've got the time as I don't like the sound of that I/O error. It's a fairly new cloned samsung EVO SSD so it shouldnt have any issues...
Luke 42083 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 In my opinion I think you should run hardware diagnostics in addition to chkdsk. The only other time I've seen the error in post #4 was a main drive failure. I was already beginning to think that before you even mentioned the I/O error.
badbread 7 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 (edited) I'm getting the same thing after the last update. *EDIT* Reinstall fixed it. Edited May 27, 2016 by badbread
Luke 42083 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I'm getting the same thing after the last update. *EDIT* Reinstall fixed it. Hi, thanks for reporting back. Glad to hear you're all set!
MiChAeLoKGB 7 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) Hi, I just got this error after my PC froze and I restarted it (emby just hanged so I restarted again and same error). Emby version: 3.0.5986.0 Also I am not willing to re-install emby right now (I will be reinstalling whole Windows soon), but I thought that error log might be useful (and nope I can not start my emby at all, I always get this error): Could not load file or assembly 'ServiceStack.Text, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest. System.BadImageFormatException at MediaBrowser.Common.Implementations.BaseApplicationHost`1.<Init>d__4.MoveNext() at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.AsyncTaskMethodBuilder.Start[TStateMachine](TStateMachine& stateMachine) at MediaBrowser.Common.Implementations.BaseApplicationHost`1.Init(IProgress`1 progress) at MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.MainStartup.RunApplication(ServerApplicationPaths appPaths, ILogManager logManager, Boolean runService, StartupOptions options) at MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.MainStartup.Main() Edited July 15, 2016 by MiChAeLoKGB
ebr 16187 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Make sure an anti-malware program didn't mess with the install.
MiChAeLoKGB 7 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Nope it didnt. I looked at the logs od MBAM and MSE, they didnt do anything to EMBY at all. Id like to know what file I might be missing.
Luke 42083 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Major sure you have the .net frame work 4.6 installed. After that if the issue persists try installing the server from the website on top of your existing install.
MiChAeLoKGB 7 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I had the .net, installing emby over existing install helped... I was kinda not wanting to do that in case it removed all my configs, but it didn't so yay and thx?
Luke 42083 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 If it happens again and you're sure it's not anti-virus tampering with it, then you'll probably want to run windows chkdsk to scan for hard disk errors, as well as other hardware diagnostics.
MiChAeLoKGB 7 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I did check all my disks (as part of me trying to diagnose why the F does my PC freeze randomly when idle) and they are all OK. But I will be re-installing windows as my last attempt of trying to solve the freezing, so hopefully it wont happen again. But if it does, I will post here and do a bit more diagnostics.
