Direct File Path / Path Substitution

I have Emby server running on a QNAP NAS with an Nvidia Shield 'head end' running Kodi and the Emby/Kodi plugin connected to my HT system.  I want to use Emby as the 'library server' only to access BluRay ISOs since I have ample horsepower on the Shield and therefore don't need any transcoding.

Here's what I previously was able to successfully add to the Emby library:
/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia/Movies

However, I want to use Path Substition so the clients pull files directly over the network.  When I click the 'network' button, nothing happens.  Using the Path Substitution tab, I have tried:

\\192.168.1.200\Multimedia\Movies

\\SERVER\Multimedia\Movies

The folder is shared, because I can see it on my network, however there is a login and PW for the server.  Perhaps that's the problem?

Hope someone can help.  Thanks in advance!

Can Kodi on Android mount and play ISOs...?

Can Kodi on Android mount and play ISOs...?

Absolutely.  I can play ISO files directly from the NAS by adding the share via SMB.  It would even scrape the files and create a library, but I want that library to be on the server, not at the head end, so I can track watched/resume states, etc.

Doesn't kodi have file access password settings?

Doesn't kodi have file access password settings?

Yes, of course.  That's how I've been doing it up to now before installing Emby on the NAS to share libraries.  I added the NAS to the Kodi SMB file sources.  Where I get confused is that if I use the Emby/Kodi plugin, and select a file from the library, how do I know if the file is being accessed directly by Kodi on the Shield and not transcoded at the server?

Look at the server dashboard front page.  It will tell you.

Just to be clear, all I need to do on the Path Substitution page is to enter these values:

library: /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia/movies

path substitution: //SERVERNAME/Multimedia/movies

I previously mapped the shared folder to a drive letter.  Instead, this is all I need?  IOW, it's Emby that's doing the 'redirect' internally, yes?

All Emby does is a simple string replacement of  your path.  So the from needs to match how you defined the path in the library setup and the to needs to match whatever format is necessary to access that location from the client.

I'm guessing the easiest way to confirm it's working right is when I'm watching a movie and the CPU isn't pegged, yes?

Not trying to hijack your thread, but if I did my emby server setup correctly, I just used the SMB path to my files in the library setup and didn't use path substitution. If I understood the wiki then my clients will stream directly from the SMB shares unless the client needs it transcoded.

I have the Nvidia Shield as well but my emby server is on an old core2duo and all the files are located on other NAS's without any authenication. When I'm watching something on the Shield the emby server page shows direct connection.

Not hijacked at all - your post is a welcome clarification.  Thanks.  What are you using as a client player?

The NAS server dashboard, or the Emby server dashboard?  I can't verify at the moment due to the migration at the moment.

Hammerhead, I'm using Kodi on my Nvidia Shield TV for the client. I've been playing mkv video files in full 1080P with full 5.1 passthrough to my Vizio 70" tv then optical to my old Pioneer receiver. And it is playing the 5.1 sound.
