Nvidia ShieldTV - Playback/Audio Problems from Win10 Share

I am experiencing an issue with the Nvidia ShieldTV and playback/audio distortion from a remote win10 fileshare.  Here are specifics on what I am using:

Nvidia ShieldTV (ver 2.0 software connected to Pioneer VSX-524K receiver)

Emby Android TV (ver. 1.1.30g - part of beta program)

Media - Stored on Unraid (ver. 6.1.6)

Emby Server 3.0.5781.5  (runs off a Docker on the Unraid Server)

Network - Gigabit Ethernet everywhere

Unraid Media

DVD's - VOB format (AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS directories)

Blu-Ray - MKV format

I do have one other media storage location for 'New Movies' that resides on a remote Win10 file share & are raw rips of either DVD's or Blu-Ray's in their respective directory.  I have the path substitutions setup properly within Emby as well (ex. New Movies  -\\pcname\newmovies). I have no issues playing the 'New Movies' DVD VOB rip directories (via WMC - emby player disabled) & also the raw Blu-Ray rips on the WMC client (launching MPC-HC for Blu-Ray playback) on my main HTPC (Win 8.1 - Windows Media Center - using Emby Classic).   Both play direct, no transcoding.

When I attempt to play the VOB rip directories on 'New Movies' on the Nvidia ShieldTV, it will start & sit there with a blank black screen spinning for minutes, until I cancel it back to the main menu.  On the server mgmt screen I see the movie start (for about 20 seconds) and then just stop.  If I start a blu-ray rip, it will play eventually but very, very choppy (I contribute this to my low power AMD 5350 CPU transcoding performance on the unraid server since that is where the Emby server docker resides).   After this playback failure audio is now totally distorted (crackles) in the Emby app for any additional movie I play after this.   I end up having to reboot the ShieldTV to resolve (killing the Emby app doesn't work).

I can access the remote share from any pc in my house, and play the DVD's DIRECT without issue.    This same issue existed on prior Emby Android TV version (1.1.29).    I am stumped on the issue with the remote share/audio distortion on the ShieldTV device only.   In addition, the Nvidia ShieldTV hardware is more than capable of handling VOB files directly (no transcoding) as well as the blu-ray rips.  Is there no way to force the internal VLC player to play direct and NOT transcode?   If not, will support be setup to allow to play using an external player (like in the Android Emby client)?

Thanks.

Folder rips are not natively supported for anything other than HTPC players that can truly direct play them.  ffmpeg has limited support for these and we try to make them work but they will definitely be hit or miss.

What about support for using external players (such as MX Player, etc.) or would that not make any difference for what I am trying to achieve with raw rip folders?   Also, the audio problem I experienced is similar to what others have posted about here on this forum, playing around with the settings mine seems to work better when it is set to 'Compatibile' versus 'Direct'.   What is the difference between the two?

I'm not sure an external player on Android is going to be able to play those either but I'm not sure.  Kodi probably can.  For moving ahead in today's streaming world you really should be looking at a plan to convert them to more compatible file formats (at your leisure ;)).

The compatible setting is going to downmix everything to stereo while direct will bitstream Dolby Digital and send other mult-channel formats as full-quality PCM.
