jagerm 6 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 You are going to have the same problem unless you use the naming I suggested. Why not just introduce that episode folder and leave it as a rip? Ok, I'll do that. Thanks
ebr 16169 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Now, you may still need to use an external player because I'm not sure the internal MBT one can do DVD menus.
jagerm 6 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Now, you may still need to use an external player because I'm not sure the internal MBT one can do DVD menus. I just tested it. Classic and Theater are showing DVD Menus fine without an external player. Streaming (Web/Android) just pick an episode (the longest/largest one?) and play it. Using the multi-episode naming format is working good, and updating the Metadata via the manager makes it even better. Thanks!
Luke 42077 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I experimented with this a bit this morning. Basically VIDEO_TS plays fine for me when the parent folder is in a Media Folder of type Movie. But when it is in a parent Media Folder of type TV Show then no matter what it doesn't work right. For now I just moved the one episodal show (two volumes) I had stored as VIDEO_TS to my Movie Media Folder so it would work. Is everyone else here seeing this?
Luke 42077 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Mmm, I'm pretty sure mine works fine. Even though I'm using MBC all the time, I regularly update/test MBT. I know for sure the Movies play fine and I have definitely browsed through a TV Series no problem but I don't know if I've actually tried to play an episode in MBT! I'll test when I get home. My setup Movies = \\server\Movies\Movie Name\VIDEO_TS TV = \\Server\Drama\Series Name\Season 1\E1\VIDEO_TS This works perfectly in MBC. I shall report back... If it plays in mbc you're fine. The issue in this thread is not failing playback but rather not having a play button at all due to the server not seeing the folder structure.
rms8 14 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 My DVD's play fine in the Movie folders, but the TV Shows folder is no dice. The only thing that has changed is going from MB2 to MBS + MBC.
Xzener 729 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 How is every ones experience with DVD folder structure playback in MB Theater??
rms8 14 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Just an update: My MBC just updated itself. Not sure if Luke has had time to try to resolve this or not, but if there was any fix added to the latest update, it didn't work.

Not sure if Luke has had time to try to resolve this or not, but if there was any fix added to the latest update, it didn't work. compare your folder structure to what's outlined on our liibrary wiki, because i'm pretty sure it's due to an unsupported structure. and post screenshots of your folders because i may be able to identify it
rms8 14 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) Hi Luke, As I stated in the past, my TV Show rips are in their native folder structure and should be treated like a movie folder. I do not utilize the episode features due to the method in which I rip my BR/DVD's (no by episode, but by disc). My TV Show rips are like a glorified box set.Unfortunately I can not upload any images. It says I can only upload 24.17KB. I have compressed the screen shot as much as can be, but it is 34KB MB2 was able to read the discs as it is. When I installed MB3, those same folders are no longer recognized my MB3 as having a movie in them. Can you change something so I can upload an image? Thanks Luke, Rob EDIT: See my next post on Page 4. I uploaded the images directly as opposed to attachments. Edited January 13, 2014 by rms8
rms8 14 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 As you can see from above, There is an entry for Everybody Loves Raymond under the TV Shows header. From there I would pick a season (labeled Volume since MB would try to alter the metadata if I called it "Season"). Then under that Volume (season) there would be multiple discs.
pagali 62 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I'm really confused. This thread is in the MBT section, and started off talking about MBT... but seems to have wandered into MBC territory. I can't keep track of what player folks are talking about.

When I was doing a search for the problem I had : "Unable to play Video_TS" I just started posting here since the thread title was exactly what I was seeing. LUKE, I am having this issue with MBC. I do NOT use MBT..... Not sure if that make any difference or if I should start a new thread under the MBC forum. Please advise
rms8 14 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) what is the collection type defined in the dashboard? TV Show Would this mean MBC treats folder in TV Shows differently than folders in Movies ? Edited January 13, 2014 by rms8
Luke 42077 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 TV Show Would this mean MBC treats folder in TV Shows differently than folders in Movies ? The tv shows collection type expects certain naming conventions: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser/wiki/Library-Structure So your options are to rename folders, or you can try kludging it by using a different collection type, like Home Videos, although you'll be foregoing all metadata-related features by doing so.
rms8 14 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Thanks Luke, So, based on your explanation above, this implies that MB3 treats folders under TV Shows differently than if they were under Movies? Yes? Versus how MB used to handle them that is.
Luke 42077 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Yes. We have so many more features than MB2 did, but sometimes these features conflict with each other. So we've had to get a little more strict but I think it's still pretty flexible because we support all of the tv structures that xbmc and plex do. 1
rms8 14 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Finally got it to work! Had to delete that library and re-add, but associate it with Movies (vs. TV Shows). But that didn't work so I started renaming the folders until finally I added the year in the name of the individual Disc folders names. Thanks Luke for all your time!

You know, it would be useful if this naming convention information was either to be found in one place, or if it was to be kept in sync between the forums here and Github. It was only today, after reading a post in a thread about playing TV content stored in VIDEO_TS folders that I discovered how to do this. It certainly wasn't covered in the pinned Tutorials in this forum. Now I find that it was buried in Github.
