Scan Library runs on a nearly continuous loop eating my bandwidth up

Since the very last update (autoupdate) of the server software I have noticed that the "scan media library" feature is running continuously. Ad nauseum it is eating tremendous bandwidth up as it does so. So much infact that it interferes with streaming movies from the server to various devices.

I am not sure if there is some feature setting I have incorrectly set or what else it is that is going on, but I can watch my network activity go through the roof when the scan is running. I kill it manually and boom the network activity stops. However, it seems to be self starting and resumes where it left off when I killed it. Why it is eating so much bandwidth "downloading" I have no idea? I don't even know what it is downloading... Very frustrated.... I have been a loyal supporter for some time now and love the software as well as the many excellent improvements over the years but this is really debilitating the software in my opinion. I mean I don't think I have done anything to cause this issue and it seems to have coincided with either the last Server update or the update to the iPhone Emby app change which I believe was quite close to the server change.

I have attached the Screenshot showing the scan in progress at 98.2% and Only perhaps thirty or so minutes of the log which is extensive...

Anyone with a clue that can help please let me know what can be done.

Thanks!

Hi, there weren't any changes related to the scan. try turning off the realtime library monitor under library -> advanced.

I did and for about a minute maybe three it did seem to stop downloading but then it started up again.

I may be off on the server update... I think this has been going on since about a week ago maybe a little more.

Now the scan has stopped and I am testing my set up by streaming live tv to the Roku and Big Hero 6 BD to a chromecast through the iphone app. So far so good but I will also be starting to play some games on the server computer. I normally do without any issues to any streams but we'll see. I am wondering how often it does the library scan? I had changed the trigger to only once daily at 2 am with a 2 hour limit but it was running when I got to the computer at 5:45ish pm this evening. I have now removed all the triggers to see if it comes on by itself or not... Not a solution just another test...

Thanks for such a quick reply!

Do you regularly record using windows media center? because you have your library path pointed at windows media center's recording path. if wmc is putting temp files in there during recording then the files are going to be constantly changing which is going to cause the server to want to rescan and reprobe them every time you do a scan.

Ahhhh yes I do... is there an easy solution to this?

and why has it only recently become an issue?

I did move some of the recordings into folders to ease finding a bad file the other day. My commercial ripper was getting hung up on a file but finding it was a bugger...

if wmc puts in-progress recordings in there then the solution is turning off the realtime monitor and adjusting the schedule of the library scan to something that suits you.

if you moved the recordings into folders then that is exactly why it is scanning because as far as the server is concerned they are brand new files now.

I see. Ok I can manage that issue now that I know what is going on. I did create my own issue damn it... lol

Thanks for the heads up I appreciate it!
