Polish Subtitles - How To Display Properly

My gf is polish and so i have set emby server to download polish subtitles. When i play a movie some characters dont display properly. I did some research on the internet and i have managed to get them working fine in vlc, i had to go into subtitles settings and set subtitle encoding to 'eastern european, windows 1250'. How can i get these subtitles to work properly in Emby?

see if saving them as utf8 makes a difference

thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested and it did not work just by doing this,  I then changed my language and region settings to Poland, rebooted, now they play in Emby  just fine.
