Hi I currently have emby server setup in the lounge and have just put a tv outside under the veranda. I would like to get emby outside along with nba league pass app ect.

I was looking and saw the Amazon fire stick and see the emby has an app for this along with nba. It will be connecting to the wifi which is about 15m away and was wondering how the performance of these devices are? Does it need to trans-code or will it direct play ect

thanks

It will work but the Fire Stick will have to do a lot of transcoding at the server because it is really a very limited device in terms of computing power (your phone is much more powerful).

The actual Fire TV will be able to direct stream a lot more (depending on the exact format of your content).

I have numerous family members using fire sticks however they are playing through the kodi addon as the kodi player can direct play/stream more formats etc. Works perfectly in this scenario.

I dropped all Fire TV sticks and went with the boxes instead due to direct streaming and when you have 2 - 4 sticks and they are transcoding, it tends to bog things down no matter how powerful your equipment is.

EDIT: Everything I have is in a MKV container.
