I've had a browse of the forum and it doesn't seem this issue has been brought up, perhaps I'm not looking properly or I'm overlooking something obvious on the server side of things. So I have the server set up to automatically download the English version of subtitles for films, the server does this fluidly but it downloads the full English files. Is there a way to make it only download English/foreign files, as in if you are watching a film which has a segment of Russian spoken, can it only show the English for the foreign parts and not the whole films dialogue?

unfortunately the open subtitles api does not support this feature.

It wasn't me being an idiot then, that's ok. So really the only option is what I have been doing and sourcing the foreign part file. Thanks Luke

That's right. Where are you sourcing these from? I find them quite cumbersome to try and find at opensubtitles.org

I generally use opensubtitles, once you have used it a few times it becomes easier to find what you want
