Hi folks, I'm running Emby (with Premiere key) on a server, in other words, its not on the same network as my iOS devices. How do I register the app?

i believe you have to be on the same network in order to purchase the app. once purchased you can do what you like

So, if my server is not on my home network (which it isn't) the app is never going to register is it?

I think that is right, however there are work arounds. For instance, you could VPN into the server to appears as if you are on the same network.  I believe Luke is looking at trying to find a different solution, but I don't know any timeline on that.

It just has to get connected on the local lan once right now and we are working on rectifying that.

So sorry if I'm being dim here. My sever is online so how do I get that to communicate with the app on my local network?

The device needs to be attached to the same network as the server (via wifi and not cellular).  Once this happens it should recognize the Premiere status and save that so that you can then access it away from home.

I can authorise my local server, but it seems its a per-server authorization and I can't think of a way to authorize the app using a cloud-based server. Really annoying but it looks like I might have to buy the app. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

You have your Emby Server running on a cloud account (like a linnode or other hosting account)?

Its installed on a Linux Ubuntu 12.04 server

Is there any update on this for remote servers?

I have emby installed on a remote ubuntu server, i signed up for premiere through the iphone app which worked fine  - but when i set the server up on additional devices it asks me to connect to the server lan.

I have tried connecting via VPN but this doesn't work either.

I'd really rather not have to buy the app for all of the devices that will be connecting - as my wife uses a different apple ID purchasing the app on one device will not share it will all devices

I personally am hoping this gets rectified soon and in a manner that makes sense.  I am ready to spring for a lifetime subscription but don't want myself or my fam to have to pay for the Android client on each device we use.  The emby server that I have set up (currently running Plex) sits in a colocation facility because I'm constantly on the go and where we life, the ISP limits us quite a bit. :-(
