can't get ImagesByName to work

It started two weeks ago. After a move I set up my HTPC and noticed that in Emby for windows media the "Movies by Genre","Music Albums" and "Music by Genre" all have the generic glass image for the main image. I searched the community forum for answers but nothing helped. Emby would not acknowledge the custom images in the "ImagesByName" folder. I have already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall of both server and client. I also created a new copy of the "ImagesByName" folder in the root of the c drive and changed the settings in the server to point to this folder for metadata. The server recreated the metadata inside the "ImagesByName" folder and still nothing. The path for "ImagesByName" folder is "c:\ImagesByName\General". Inside of "General" are the folders "Movies by Genre","Music Albums" and "Music by Genre" with "folder.png" inside each.  What am I missing here?

How old is your install?  If new, then Emby no longer uses ImagesByName folder, it migrated to Metadata folder.  

 

If your system.xml still contains  <ItemsByNamePath>your path</ItemsByNamePath> then it is another issue.

As I mentioned this probably happened due to a emby server update when I set my system up again two weeks ago. After searching the community forum I found no mention that "ImagesByName" was completed nonfunctional just that it no longer was the primary source. I repointed the metadate source to the "ImagesByName" folder as related post had stated. I uninstalled and reinstalled the server today to see if it would help. Even though you state that "ImagesByName" folder is nonfunctional, I noticed in the brand new install the system.xml still has a line "<MergeMetadataAndImagesByName>true</MergeMetadataAndImagesByName>".  

So in the "improved" Emby system, how does one add a main image for "Movies by Genre", "Music Albums" and "Music by Genre" in the Windows Media Client? Are the blank glass images by design?

Sorry ebr,

Thought it was a server issue (it is) so I did not search in the client forum. I see luke has not even bothered to reply to that other thread in almost two weeks time.  It nice to know that such a basic functionality couldn't bother to be maintained for your original core users.

I apologize for my previous frustration in my comments . I see that luke has responded and is looking into it.
