Question about .NFO files

Running Emby server Version 3.0.5781.1 and Emby Theater 3.0.5744.24672.

 

Windoze 7 on a Dell desktop using as a HTPC hooked to a big flat screen.

 

I have several external USB HDs I use to store movies, TV series, and music on. Then I have backup drives that I use to store backup copies of movies, TV series, or music that is difficult to impossible to replace.

 

I have given EMBY access to just one hard drive which has some movies and TV series I threw on there to try these programs out on.

 

The problem I'm having is somehow, it has discovered my main movie server and has written hundreds of .nfo files in just certian directories. This program has a propensity for action and drama movies, while seemingly to ignore adventure and animation movies totally; when running wild. These movies are in their own respective folders named action, adventure, animation, etc... but the individual movies are not in subfolders. 

 

Removing the .nfo files is fairly easy as I sort by file type and delete, but they come back.

 

How do I stop this?

Hi, welcome. I would double check the library setup and review the paths that you added. there's no way emby server would save metadata anywhere besides those locations. If you want you can always turn off saving of local metadata altogether.

I have tried checking all that. Just don't see it. It seems to have gotten a little more rambunctious in looking a little deeper in my folders. Now it is placing just a couple of .nfo files in folders, seemingly at random.

 

I thought it was just movies I hadn't placed in the EMBY folder and EMBY was providing a .nfo file for those movies, but no; I have .nfo files for movies both associated with EMBY and not. In some cases, there may be just 5 movies in that folder but there are 2 .nfo files.

 

One thing I haven't looked at yet is if these are produced when I do a scan.

 

I thought it might just be a box checked somewhere that says "search all drives".
