I noticed if i login and change Max streaming bitrate under my user settings, then open up any one of my regular users, all of theirs went from AUTO to whatever i have mine set at...   Bug or feature?

It's a device setting. There is no reason for the value to be different on the same device from one user to the next.

are we talking about the same thing?   If i go into my user preferences and set my maximum stream rate to 5Mbps then login as another user their preferences match mine with every change.

on a side note, I would think you would change the stream rate based on connection speed not device type, so the rates could be different between users...   Bob only has dialup, but joe has fiber..    But i dont think we were talking about the same thing...

i didn't say device type, i said device. surely bob and joe will be on different browsers with different devise.

just asking....

But what if bob and joe both had a windows 10 pc with the exact same version of Chrome?   (I've always assumed emby kept a list of devices per user)  and they login on different days, will they be fighting settings with each other?

This may explain a recent complaint from two of my users that use Roku...  One is in a rural area on a type of wireless connection (low bandwidth) and the other is in chicago with comcast.  The rural guy says his settings don't stick.  Does emby classify the Roku's as one device since they get updates at the same time and would appear as a similar device?       lol then i use my roku and set it on 30Mbps

AHHHHH that makese sense...  I need to have them actually NAME their ROKU's!   so they show as different devices....   Cool you solved another issue for me!

No, every device is unique.

Well then......    so much for that....    I think I got it...    I'm a bit slow you know......     Because i logged into another user with my browser (unique device) the max stream rate was set as the same...

So the only situation where this could be an issue is if i had my laptop at Bobs house with dialup, then took my laptop to Joes house with fiber...  i would have a crappy bitrate (or have to change my setting) while at Joe's house..   Ok well, i wasted some forum space with this question lol...    sorry....   That makes total design sense....  Good job...   :D

I think you are just creating work for yourself that doesn't have to be that way. The default setting of Auto will adjust based on network bandwidth and for the vast majority of people that is the best way to go.

You are correct, I only changed it because i was trouble shooting an internal issue... Thats when I "thought" the setting was changing for everyone...  I misunderstood how that preference was working..  :-)     As for my users for some reason the rural user had to lower his setting manually, kept getting pauses in his stream.
