Failure 0 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Hello, first of all, I am very impressed by Emby. I am coming from Plex, and alot of things are solved much more elegantly. However, there's one big issue which makes Emby (at this point) useless for me. I have alot of Videos, spread across several disks on several systems. In Plex, I just have to add these folders containing the videos, and voila, everything gets merged. I have identically named folders on various drives and network drives, and Plex beautifully merges them to a single folder. Adding my ~15000 videos took 2 minutes. In Emby, I am close to commiting suicide. Since Emby cannot merge folders by itself, I started looking into drive pooling solutions as recommended on this forum. After 2 weeks of pulling my hairs out, screwing up my collections by various buggy little drive pooling solutions, I will have to give up. It seems I cannot find a way to merge local folders with network drives folders. As long as I stay local, these pooling solutions work more or less, but throwing network shares into the mix will make them fail completely. I sincerely hope that someone here has a solution which also takes network shares into account. I would love to start using Emby. Thanks in advance for any help.
ebr 16187 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I could be proven wrong but I think all the pooling solutions are going to require you to have a single server where all the drives reside.
bluemonkey07 590 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 So it would be great if emby supported this situation itself
Failure 0 Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Drive Bender claims to be able to incorporate network shares, but all I was able to accomplish was to utilize the free space of a network share without seeing the already existing content. Liquesce, a freeware tool, brought me closest - funny enough. I tried to feed it symlinks but at the end it did not work.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 At this point your options are: Use a drive pooling solution on a server to store your media. Move your shows around a bit so any one show is all together on one drive. Use junction points to make it LOOK like all your episodes of a show are on one drive. Submit this as a feature enhancement on the appropriate forum. I'm not personally aware of any other options for Emby users at this time.
Steven 158 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Maybe I'm misunderstanding your requirements here but you can add multiple folders from different locations to form a single folder, but even multiple different folders will still be grouped as Movies and TV Shows. Shown here I used to sort movies into folders by genre and I can add different folders to that title if needed or I could just make one for movies and one for TV and link all different folders in there. bluemonkey07 590 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) The problem is If you have episodes/ seasons of a show in different locations emby does not aggregate them together as you would expect but displays them as separate items Edited October 27, 2015 by Vidman
Steven 158 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Yes that's very true. Maybe you shouldn't be so messy! I use Stablebit Drivepool on my homeserver 2011 but just checked and it doesn't support network shares unfortunately. Edited October 27, 2015 by Steven
