Maybe I am a bad person, but I do not like subscriptions. I like know what I spend in absolute numbers; not relative to time..

So I'd opt for the lifetime option if I can.

I am here on this board, mainly because plex borked up recently shortly before with their new version, allowing me to have a closer look at Emby.

At that moment the Emby IOS app was 'coming soon'  - it still is.. and the lifetime fee $69 if I am not mistaken.

Not knowing what I would be paying for when the app would finally be available; I wanted to wait a bit to see if Emby app would be able to compete with Plex at all...

(and see if Emby server would become a bit more stable in time as it seems to be hanging occasionally )

now, i notice in the short meanwhile, the price has gone up to $80 and now to $90 very recently. - this worries me a bit.

You have every right of course, but it a bit sad to see the window of opportunity slide away before I am able to see what it's actually worth.

$90?!?! Who is charging that... Plex?? That's ridiculous. I'd rather pay for Netflix, Hulu, or even both.

$90 is the new lifetime price for Emby.

I don't think $90 is too outrageous. If the core team is working on Emby full-time they need to earn a living. $90 is still significantly lower than Plex's $150, arguably you get more from Plex, mostly because Plex holds more back in their free server.

Perhaps the devs need to do something that makes users feel like they are getting more value. Perhaps something like not just letting anyone beta test and instead open pre-release software to lifetime subscribers only.

There aren't enough people testing dev and beta builds as it is so I don't think that would be a good idea.

As long as people feel like they are getting value for money then the price is fine. If people feel like it's not worth it then they won't pay, or use the software. At that point the price will have to change or more value will need to be added.

To me it seems like Emby is in a bit of transition. With all the apps (or most) being handled by the core devs it produces a more cohesive ecosystem but not all the apps are now on par with each other, or the server. Once all the apps are up to date I think there will be more value to Emby but I don't know how long that will take. Hopefully not too long.

I also agree with the price increase. I have no idea if it is making a difference since I don't know how many people are signing up for and paying that, but I agree that someone working on a very large and intense software project like Emby should be compensated for their efforts. To me this means more time put into the project and we would end up with an even more stable and awesome piece of software that will do everything we want and more. Hell, I probably only take advantage of less than half of what it's capable of doing since my needs are pretty simple.

Plex has a lifetime fee of $150.00 for their software. I think $90.00 is fair, especially since more of it is free than what Plex offers.

Maybe more money could equal more Devs coming in to work on the project as well which means the users win in the long run.

I have used this software now for over a year and I donate randomly when I can anyway even if it's only $10.00 here and there. I honestly haven't kept up with how much I've spent, but it's possibly even more than $90.00 or at least pretty close.

I thought the thread starter was talking about an IOS app for $90. I think $90 for Lifetime Emby Subscription is a steal. Considering whats in development right now. Not sure what Ive contributed over the years, well worth every cent.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I've been wondering this for a while. What is the preferred means of support assuming I plan on sticking around for a long while? I do monthly because I figure that in the long term that will help more, but would a one-time lump sum be preferable?

I've made several donations. Purchased lifetime along with several apps and plugins. Have also made a few other donations. If a big feature is added that will benefit me, I would be inclined to donate again as well. Maybe after the new versions of Theater or Roku are released new donations will be in order.

The OP seemed more concerned with the price increasing over what he felt was a short timespan, than the actual amount of the subscription.

Costs increased. Things like rebranding, replacing third-party apps, hosting, and connect all cost money. Even forming an LLC costs money. That has to come from somewhere. For lifetime, the price is still good. I pay more for some games throughout the year.

Also remember a portion of the supporter fee goes to support sites like TheMovieDB, Fanart.tv, TheTVDB and others.

Has the price of Emby Premiere increased?

I thought the lifetime membership was 79.99$ but now I see it at 89.99$

I haven't seen any announcement about this.

Maybe the OP is concerned about the lack of notice about the price increases. It seems like every time I check the price goes up without notice.

I have to agree with this comment.  Where I have no issue whatsoever with the current price for a lifetime membership, it is certainly very fair and reasonable considering the years of time and effort by a small group of individuals have put into this excellent application, I do have concern with the lack of "official" post to note the increase resulting in these types of threads.

Given the excellent and often Blog posts which Luke and other distribute for new app releases/updates, server updates, etc., it seems like it would kinda make sense to tie any change in membership fees within in one of these Blog posts.  Like, "Hey, we are releasing EMBY Android TV for free which also comes with the ability to do these "extra" features for those individuals who are EMBY members.  The cost of our EMBY lifetime membership is now $89.99, but monthly and annual memberships are also available for $4.99 and $39.99."

I just think being a bit more upfront about the pricing structure, maybe even including a link to the Emby Premium page from the blog post would remove any question about fees and when they were increased.

ah, ok .. threads get merged now, so please ignore my last post.

I have been using Emby since its MB2 days and have donated around $300 or so during that time. I cut the cable over a year ago and just watch everything on my server and use Emby daily. I have no problem with the price increase since I have seen how far the product has came over the years. Once ET (Emby Theater) drops I see the price going up again but it should be well worth it.
