foghat 65 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I'm not sure if this was always happening, but I don't think so. The Latest Movies view shows all unwatched movies - even if the movie was added to the library years ago; I can toggle the watched filter off a movie added literally 5 years ago and the movie then shows up in the Latest Movie section. Is this expected behavior? I'd like to see Latest Movies show just that - recently added movies (by added date). And then use the 'unwatched' filter/view to see all movies that have not been watched. Would also be nice if you could set the how many days back one considers 'latest'. Thoughts?
Luke 42083 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 for the first one, explore your user preferences. for the second, it makes more sense the way we have it now in order to allow the page to always display something. if you go on a two week vacation or you have a busy month at work with no time to watch movies, when you come back we think it's better to continue to show the recently added that was there when you were last active.

I am not sure what I am looking for in preferences. I know there is an option to turn on/off 'hide watched from latest media', but that is besides my point - I don't care that watched movies aren't showing up in latest movies and, thus, do not wish to uncheck that option. I guess my point is, as far as I can tell (assuming you are hiding watched from latest), there is no difference between 'latest movies' and the 'unwatched' movies filter. This does not seem right from an experience pov. I mean, how can one consider a movie added 5 years ago (and in that time over 100 other movies have been added) that happens to be unwatched, a 'latest movie'? This distinction is really noticeable in clients that have the option to show 'unwatched' and to show 'recently added' - currently they show the same list of movies, even though the reality is they could be quite different views. Would be nice if there was a way to define how long something should stick around as a 'latest movie'
Luke 42083 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 the latest screen is not a filter. i think that's where you're getting tripped up. it's your latest, e.g. most recent movies that we think you might want to watch. they are only suggestions, hence the heading at the top of the page - Suggestions. it is not a filter. if you go to the complete movie list screen, there you have true filters in the slide out menu.
ebr 16187 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Unwatched is likely to be sorted by name or some other criteria whilst Latest will always be in reverse order of added date. There will be overlap but they aren't really the exact same thing.

I get that it isn't a filter in the true sense of a filter. But there must be some filter logic in there to decide what to display? For certain it seems to include unwatched movies, regardless of the date added. I guess there is probably a max amount your allow to display in that view though. And this is where I am taking some exception - you say it is "most recent movies you we think you might want to watch", but I counter with, " how can a movie I added 5 years ago, but have not watched (or have removed the watched flag on) be considered recent?" Why is this movie showing up in Latest Movies? Unwatched is likely to be sorted by name or some other criteria whilst Latest will always be in reverse order of added date. There will be overlap but they aren't really the exact same thing. Sorting aside, if you have set the 'do not show watched in latest media' flag, the list of movies displayed is identical to the list displayed when using the unwatched filter. At least, I guess, if you have fewer unwatched movies than whatever maximum you allow to be displayed in the Latest Movies view. -------------------------------------------------- Take these two use cases for example: Case 1 1. Turn off 'hide watched movie in latest' filter (so watched movies do appear in 'latest movies' 2. Remove watched flag on added five years ago (6th Day) 3. Got to latest movies view 4. Watched and unwatached movies are displayed 5. Oldest movie (based on added date) shown is about 3 months old 6. 6 th day does not display - as I'd expect Case 2 1. Turn on'hide watched movie in latest' filter (so watched movies do not appear in 'latest movies') 2. Remove watched flag on movie added five years ago (6th Day) 3. Got to latest movies view 4. Only unwatached movies are displayed 5. 6th Day does display - this not what I'd expect and don't understand why it given it did not display in Case 1 Obviously Case 1 has more movies displayed. I suspect the reason it doesn't display in case 1 is because there is a max number of items you show in the Latest Movie view? I had 20 movies displayed - I am guessing that is the limit? Either way, I just don't understand the rational (and admittedly, me not understanding is not your concern) behind allowing a 5 year old unwatched movie to display in latest movies. As noted before, it would be nice to be able to set how many days back you want to allow for movies to display in the view - regardless of how many movies end up displaying. Anyways, this particualr use case just seemed odd to me, but is obvioulsy a fairly trivial matter in the grand scheme of things. Great work on this product guys!
Sireone 6 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I have to fully agree with foghat on this one. This is one of the reasons why I was so frustrated with Plex & Synology Video Station. When you open your media library, you should be greeted with the Latest/Recently Added Movies/TV Shows, not something that's 5 years old. It needs to be the same way it is in Kodi, Latest Movies based on File Creation date! I downloaded the Emby server to use with Kodi so I can keep all my instances in sync. If this is going to screw up my Kodi Recently Added list, then it'll be a deal breaker. At least place an option in setting on how we want the Latest Moves to be displayed (based on file date) and let us specify the amount of Latest Movies to display (e.g. 10,20 etc)
