andcbii 12 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 If is set the Emby Kodi plug-in to Localpaths, can i still use MySQL? I have multiple Kodi boxes around the house (3 HTPC, 2 Android tablets, 2 Android TV boxes) and was just wondering if they could all share a library instead of having to build their own. Part of the reason i'm asking is because I'm planing to reinstall windows on the HTPCs and was trying to avoid having to re-sync everything on each PC.
mellomade 141 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Even though this post got no responses - and the basic answer to andcbii's question is currently no - I really like this idea. Emby is a server side solution that should feed all clients - so why should each instance of Kodi have to maintain its own database? Is there value in having the Emby for Kodi plugin be a server plugin rather than a Kodi addon - and point the remote database using Kodi's advanced settings? Thoughts?
Angelblue05 4132 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 How does mysql work exactly? Does it simply look at a specific database and use it to load content in a different Kodi? Can you use mysql outside your network? Please give as much details as possible on the functionality. I do not have the time to really research this, because the server should be the central point, not a Kodi in particular.
xnappo 1611 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 (edited) If we supported mysql - the database would reside on the Emby server machine. I really think with this setup, a whole different project with a database maintained by an Emby Server plugin and a Kodi addon that just communicated status would be in order. It would be hella faster with updates, but would lose the (easy) remote access functionality. As a side note, I think the Kodi addon involved could be submitted to the official repo.
