alexrw 13 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Using 3.0.5768.2 beta under Windows. Web and Kodi clients. I initially configured Emby to store metadata and artwork in the media folders and I allowed it to finish everything. It did, and I could see all the .nfo and .jpg and .png files next to my videos. For various reasons (good reasons, but beyond the scope of this topic) I want to move to having the metadata and artwork centrally in my %AppData% folder. Just unchecking that option and triggering a "Scan media library" did nothing. I tried deleting all .nfo, .jpg, .png files and then triggered a "Scan media library" but nothing happened. The "Emby-Server/metadata/library" is not populated with anything. The only way I found I could get my artwork is to go to the Metadata Manager and issue a refresh for each of my movies and episodes ... one by one! ... I couldn't find any option to refresh all descendents under a folder, even though there is a refresh button for my Movies folder (pressing it and choosing to refresh and download missing artwork does nothing, it keeps spinning forever and no files are downloaded). Is there a way to do it that does not involve so much manual work or wiping everything and starting from scratch? If not, would the devs please consider adding such an option? I'm surprised there isn't one (I'm used to Kodi where you can clean/update and it works solidly).
alexrw 13 Posted October 19, 2015 Author Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) I see the sqlite database (library.db) is still pointing to the old paths for the .jpg and .png in the TypedBasedItems table ... I could try to do an UPDATE query directly in the db (set "ImageInfos" to an empty array [] ?) if that then allows Emby to re-fetch the artwork. Would it? Happy to experiment. Any pointers are welcome. Edited October 19, 2015 by alexr
alexrw 13 Posted October 20, 2015 Author Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) Actually I discovered that it's most likely a problem wih the latest beta versions. I wiped and started from scratch with a fresh beta reinstall (including yesterday's .3 beta) several times. The database update process was not downloading any artwork at all - I tried changing artwork source options (changing order of scrapers, etc). The only way to download was manually, one-by-one in the Metadata Manager. I then installed the latest stable version, wiped and started from scratch again and it downloaded all artwork without a hitch. Edited October 20, 2015 by alexr

Next time I add some media I will post the log file. Thanks CrashKelly
Luke 42083 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 i tested tonight with a fresh install of the beta server and a movie and tv library with no pre-existing metadata. no problem found. metadata and images were downloaded without any issue.
crashkelly 62 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Okay, so I just tried this again, running Dev Version 3.0.5771.31883, and everything was grabbed just fine. I know that when I added a movie yesterday I got one image and the metadata nfo. Can try it again with the stable beta if desired as I know I have this issue for about a week since I had to rebuild my machine after a failure. Thanks CrashKelly
alexrw 13 Posted October 20, 2015 Author Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) Argh, I should have kept the logs before wiping and installing the stable version. I swear the beta could not download any artwork at all, even after fresh installing it ... however, 3 days before that it was working fine and was downloading artwork, but I was using nfo files when it was working. Could it be related to using nfo files instead of central metadata? Edited October 20, 2015 by alexr
xnappo 1611 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I am still having problems getting art to download. I do have nfo creation turned off. Only way it works right is if I manually refresh the individual items. Driving me nuts!
alexrw 13 Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 @@xnappo, with the beta? Maybe you can look at the logs. What about if you try with the stable (without wiping the library)? That's something I didn't try.
xnappo 1611 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 @@alexr - yeah, I updated to the latest beta yesterday. I am nervous about wiping my library because I was using Emby to store all my playstates (not using XML) and since turning on XML I have not been able to get recursive refreshes to work. I will play with it more over the weekend. Not seeing anything interesting in the log other than a lot of themoviedb lookup errors.
alexrw 13 Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 (edited) I meant try the stable without wiping anything. Just install the stable version with the existing library in place and see if that fetches artwork. Obviously, I'd backup the %appdata%/Emby-Server folder first, just in case Edited October 21, 2015 by alexr

Obviously, I'd backup the %appdata%/Emby-Server folder first, just in case I am noticing the same I think. Metadownloads work just fine, it's using an existing install when you try to switch from saving the Metadata to the media folder, and instead save it locally that there seems to be no way to do a mass refresh.
