vindicator 1 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Since Emby is running as a service and other media players/centers can delete videos (kodi), it would be nice if Emby had a scheduled task to clean up (delete) orphaned NFOs and JPGs/Posters. 1
Griffo 3 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Can I second this request? :-) It's a big problem for me - folders where the metadate files are left over when a file is deleted. I'd only add .thmb files to that list as well, and the removal of the folder if all files are removed. Cheers
alexrw 13 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) Using the WIndows server and the Kodi client via the Emby addon. I configured Emby to put the metadata and artwork in the media folders, next to the video file. I deleted a movie - tried both from Kodi and web interface. It correctly deleted the .mkv file and the .nfo file (*) created by Kodi, but it left all the other files "*-fanart.jpg", "-poster.jpg", etc. Also triggered "Clean Database". Didn't clear them. It would be nice to know that deleting a movie also deletes all the files created by Emby (not just the .nfo). I understand that would require Emby to keep track of which files it created itself (some users may use their own artwork). (*) deleting from the web interface only deleted the video file. Does this issue also exist when Emby writes the metadata and artwork in my home dir instead of the media folder? Edit: Sorry, I just found another thread about this: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/21269-clean-orphaned-nfo-and-jpgposter/ Edited October 19, 2015 by alexr 1
alexrw 13 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) Does this issue also exist when Emby writes the metadata and artwork in my home dir instead of the media folder? I'll answer myself: No, I just tried it. The issue is not present if Emby is configured to write metadata and artwork in the contral config dir (home folder). It correctly deletes all files in that case. Would be nice to do the same when configured to write metadata and artwork are in the media folder, which would require Emby to know which metadata it created itself ... alexrw 13 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) I just made a topic about this too (couldn't find this one at first): http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/26533-deleting-a-movie-from-library-does-not-delete-fanart-thumb-etc/ This is a problem only if Emby is configured to store metadata and artwork in the media folders. There are other problems with that, like conflicts with existing .nfo files (which are included in some online downloads), See: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/26528-problem-with-pre-existing-nfo-when-saving-metadata-in-media-folders/ I'm going to move all my library centrally (disable the storage of metadata and artwork in media folders). I've had too many annoyances with it. I undrstand the advantages but I won't be scraping the entire library often so the strain on the free providers is not an issue. Edited October 19, 2015 by alexr
Luke 42080 Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 it can eventually be improved but until we really take the time to consider all the scenarios, it's not safe to just start deleting them by default.
Morphy 3 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I believe if the movies are in separate folders then the folder and all associated data is deleted. Problem solved? One feature request I might add regarding this is being able to delete from the main movies page. If I want to tidy up my collection I have to go into each individual movie and delete. To add to the woe I get booted back to suggestions as well. Not good if you want to spring clean the library! 1

But you can have multiple movies in one folder so now what do you do?

Happy2Play 9782 Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Then it would delete every edition I had of that movie. So the script would have to be a little more elegant.

Ian-Highlander 147 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Wait... People delete stuff?.. Oh god, I really am a clepto aren't I
