dvesely 3 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I had a good working Windows 7 machine running Emby Server and was using Media Browser Classic. This was all on the same machine. Upgraded to Windows 10 and of course switched from Media browser to Edge for playback and almost all movies freeze after a while. Then video and audio get out of sync and becomes unwatchable. Computer seems to be running hot as fan is running loud when this happens. Version 3.0.5724.6 Emby Server is up to date Running on http port 8096, and https port 8920. I appreciate your help. I will be opening the PC and blowing out the fans today. Dan embylog.txt transcoding.txt
ebr 16184 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 You have moved from an environment designed to play multiple media formats natively to a web browser that will require transcoding for many formats. This is big change and, depending on the format of your media may require a lot more resources.
kuebs 6 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I am having a similiar problem. I have my server on Windows 8.1. I updated my Surface client to windows 10. Now when I play anything from the media server, it is horribly choppy. There is no going back to Window s8 on the Surface.
tman 47 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I know Microsoft would have you believe that WIndows 10 is the best thing since sliced bread, but it offers no real benefit for HTPC use, and infact doesn't even include WMC anymore. Wipe it and go back to Win7 or Win8.1 Pro. There are too many issues with Windows 10 at the moment.
ebr 16184 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 What do you suggest to fix this? Why did you try to make this move? We can't increase the capabilities of web browsers so if that's what you want to use, you will need to have a server that can handle the necessary transcoding or re-format your media to be more compatible with what the browser can play.
kuebs 6 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 A fair question. I really decided to the upgrade because it was a tablet PC and because Microsoft is offering it for free, for the first year. And I had read about a lot of interesting improvements and lessened battery usage. But I certainly cannot go back. I certainly had no idea that it would cause me any trouble with Emby. Had I known, I would have held off. All that being said, eventually many PCs are going to be running windows 10 with either the edge browser or the Windows Store App, which does not seem ready/optimzed for Windows 10.
Deihmos 169 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 (edited) You switched to edge for playback? That is funny. I would install kodi with the emby addon and use the touch screen skin. That's the most reliable way to playback. There is also the Windows 10 app but it never worked well for me. Edited October 22, 2015 by Deihmos
Vicpa 611 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Hi, The Windows 10 emby app works really well.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Hi, The Windows 10 emby app works really well. Also recommend the App over using the web client. Fewer resources are needed.
