Windows 10 app won't play transcoded videos

I recently upgraded my "old" Surface Pro to Win10 and decided to purchase the Emby Win10 Store App.  I cannot get the app to play any file that requires transcoding. I searched the forums high and low, trying many recommendations for other issues, but no luck.

It will play direct videos without issue.

When I try to play a video that requires transcoding(DTS audio h264 MKV), the app just displays the Loading with the circle icon indefinitely but never plays.  When I look at the logs each attempt has a log that states the same:

I decided to give Smart Player for Emby a try and it will transcode the same files without issue, which makes me think my server config is good.

Also, I'm also not seeing a transcode log file on the server when I used Emby Win10 app but I do with Smart Player.

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance

I've got the very same problem since the last update for win8.1. As reporter above smart player works fine instead.

Hi,

Win8.1 app is also doing this, displaying the loading circle indefinitely.

I just purchased the smart player to try it, and clicking the play button does nothing.

I'm running into this very same issue. As far as I can tell, it has been this way since the last Windows update on Tuesday

It appears I have the same issue.  Things that playback direct are fine.  Transcoded video isn't loading.

Server version Version 3.0.5724.6.  Windows App Store client version 3.4.4.353.

I played back a H264 DVD conversion with AC3 sound in the app without issue.  It did direct playback.  I loaded a h264 blu-ray conversion with DTS-HD MA sound in the web client and it ran fine.  I loaded the exact same video in the win 10 app client and it never loads.

There is nothing in the server log during the failed playback from the win 10 app.  The transcode log for that session never gets created.

The app client log only shows the following:

301|2015-10-05T17:41:00.8721548+00:00|INFO|3|PlaybackService|Playing item: Avengers: Age of Ultron, Position: 0
307|2015-10-05T17:41:00.9065547+00:00|ERROR|3|PlaybackService|Avengers: Age of Ultron : Media Failed Error:

If there's a way to pull more data let me know.  Obviously 'it doesn't work and it generates no logs' is not a solid place to start working. :)

This is what I am running into as well.

Here is the App's log when I have the failed playback:

No server side transcode log is created.

This should be resolved in the latest version which was released today.

That got it.  I'm not being cruelly deprived of watching Blazing Saddles any longer.

@@iam4uk if the app doesn't play anything, my guess is you've installed a codec pack that has altered the mediafoundation settings in Windows? Is that the case?

I've installed no CODECs on this brand new computer.

I just tested this on a new Win 10 Tablet.

A bit of info that may help you find a fix. When I try to transcode m4v or mp4 it fails. The same video transcoded from mkv works fine.

EDIT:

Cancel that. It's stopped playing any now.

EDIT 2:

I disabled hardware acceleration on the audio as suggested by swhitmore in the other thread and both mkv and mp4 both play fine when transcoded. Downside is that now the subtitles have stopped working.
