Missing/Offline tag really neccessary?

I understand that this shows when server runs scan and source isnt available, ie. NAS storage.

But is it really neccessary to flag up?

Means i have to rescan to edit anything even though server is back online.

What would you want it to do?

I like it the way it is because there are many reasons something could show up Missing and removing that notification would cause confusion. I wouldn't mind if it tried to access the file again when it was selected (or automatically do a scan on some trigger - say new connection to the server when a path is offline) but I definitely need to know there is a problem when a file can't be found.

well it needs to sort itself out as in 24 hours ive had ''offline'' and had to force refresh to get to content

id also rather only see the ''missing/offline'' in video info view if its going to persist, as it is it's pretty fugly plastered all over library views imho :)

If your server is up 24/7 then maybe schedule a daily scan early in the morning when you're asleep.  Also if your server is scanning at boot time you can turn that off now.  Or, if running as a service you can delay the start of the service giving your computer time to connect to the NAS.  There are probably ways you can work around the system to your liking

You can schedule your library scans so they only run when your content will be available.

I agree - I want it to be shown when there is an actual problem, and not because I need to manually refresh the library. I'm just thinking about all the "where did my stuff go" posts that will show up here if "missing/offline" is hidden in any way.

So, I run my server and NAS 24/7 and I know both will spool down, but I haven't see the "missing" notice in a while. I just looked and I have a Power Schedule option on my NAS and apparently I turned off the Sleep mode and I use it. Of course, I think the default 12 hour library scan is based on restarting, so I may just have gotten lucky with the timing. Regardless, FrostByte is probably right - depending on what your needs are you can probably work around the issue until it is addressed.

well the problem is when this occurs its a pain to edit content without refreshing manually

OK so you only want to see the Offline flag when things are really offline.  What's the technical difference that the server can see that differentiates 'NAS didn't respond in time' and 'drive in question caught fire yesterday'?  Either way there is no response to the library scan attempt.

You should just have to run a manual Library Scan.  Or, as suggested here, find a schedule for it that aligns with when the drives are actually available.

I do as ebr mentioned, I've turned off all scans and only scan manually when I want and I know all my media can be seen.  I've turned on auto update on new media, but you don't need that either if you want to update on manual scans only.  My files are never shown offline :)

I have library monitor active for download dir so they should collide when both on regularly.

My server will wake NAS so dont get the constant issue.

Again after an hour return and all missing again, sigh.

And now TV Shows missing series/episode numbers, too much refreshing is now breaking things..
