ebr 16169 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 If you must use two servers, Redshirt has the right answer. You will need to configure each copy of MBC to connect specifically to it's server.
Redshirt 1487 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 if your running mb classic as the client you can specify in the configurator the prederred server 1
pagali 62 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Just curious... why do you need or want two servers in the same LAN? Wouldn't separate profiles work for you?
Luke 42077 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Just curious... why do you need or want two servers in the same LAN? Wouldn't separate profiles work for you? my guess is he wants to use both htpc's independently and shut them down when not in use.
Nick's MCE 59 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Hi Read carefully and stay with me as it gets confusing. I have 2 Media Centers both running MB3, 1 machine is called Nicks' MCE 2 and the other is called Nicks' MCE. The server on each machine is set up as above and both machines are running ROC with DIFFERENT BACKDROPS on the EHS. Each server is mapped to the collections differently due to the number and name of the hard drives in each machine. There is also only one user profile for each server. Both machines are on a home group but I am only sharing media folders. The problem is that today when I opened Nick's MCE 2 I was prompted for the user login for Nicks' MCE, I had no option for Nicks MCE 2. I selected the option and entered the EHS only to find that I was looking at the backdrops of the Nicks' MCE. Somehow Nicks' MCE 2 was picking up the profile Nicks' MCE, or Nicks' MCE was overriding Nicks' MCE 2. Whilst I was sitting on the machine and playing with the server trying to work it out my wife turned of Nicks' MCE and I re-launched Nicks' MCE 2 and it was back to normal with no user login screen. I am using the same supporter key, is this the problem?. Can any-one explain what is going on, is this due to it being server based and for some reason Nicks' MCE is overriding Nicks' MCE 2 because chronologically Nicks' MCE comes before Nicks' MCE 2.??? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Luke 42077 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 mce2 is probably searching for the server on the network at startup, and is probably not finding the one you want. I assume there's a way to override. Perhaps someone else can explain.

Nick's MCE 59 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 my guess is he wants to use both htpc's independently and shut them down when not in use. Exactly right, One machine is in the living room and the other is in the kids play room, they are both on and off at different times.
Luke 42077 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 you're just not going to be able to share user data, except maybe for watched state if you use the trakt plugin.
Nick's MCE 59 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Thanks for all the help, I worked it out based on the advice of RED SHIRT and set up the server - port - and user login for each machine in the configurator. I had to do this with the servers shutdown and then re-launch and all is fine. YEh!!!, the panic is over. I am about to set up a third machine so now I will know what to do. Ultimately I want to set up my own server at home and stream to each machine from one folder source. Something to think about how this will work with MB Server.
Tikuf 663 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Something to think about how this will work with MB Server Not really as that is how mb server was designed See here> http://mediabrowser.tv/about/

pagali 62 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Thanks, I should have read this earlier. And that is exactly why I asked earlier WHY you needed more than one server. I'll remember that link in future...
Nick's MCE 59 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Not really as that is how mb server was designed See here> http://mediabrowser.tv/about/ With regards to me previous post about setting up a home server I had a couple of questions. I have recently purchase a QNAPS TS 421 Server, I haven't set it up yet but had a couple of questions which I hope some-one has the answer to. I am new to the whole server business and still working through the basics so excuse my ignorance. 1. Do I still need to have a P.C running the MB Server software or can I install this on my QNAPS somehow OR is there someway to setup each HTPC to access the MB server directly. I have picture of my home network below.
bloodtaker 71 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 @@Nick's MCE http://mediabrowser.tv/server/ SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or Windows Server 2008+ if you can get the qnap to run one of those os's then yes it would work fine if not you will need a computer that has the server running on it and then have the server look for the files on the qnap server. and with the specs of the qnap server that sounds more plausible anyway to have the server on another computer when it comes to transcoding the marvel 2.0ghz cpu is not going to have enough power for that.

Thanks for the reply, So what I get from this is firstly I need to see if the QNAPS can run an O'S/ Browser. If it can then I would need to see if I can upgrade the CPU to something which will handle the transcoding.

No, really what you should get from it is that you will most likely need another machine to run the server. The QNAP is a "network appliance". That means it is designed to just be a file server in a plug- and-play fashion. I suspect it is running a form of linux so, theoretically, at some point you might be able to get our mono version of the server running on it but, as blood said, the machine probably won't have the horsepower it needs. Plus, if this is your first foray into servers, you probably wouldn't want to try and go the custom linux/mono route.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Ultimately I want to set up my own server at home and stream to each machine from one folder source. Something to think about how this will work with MB Server. Currently I have the server installed on my personal desktop and the library is stored on drives in the machine. On my other machines, I just have the clients installed. Media Browser Theater on the four Windows machines. iOS client on the iPhones. Android Cient on the Galaxy Tablet and Roku client for that. Each individual device can be turned off or go to sleep when not in use. Only my machine which serves as the household server anyway stays on.
