Charles Small 0 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Dear Sirs, After tyring to get Emby to work under both Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu Linux 14.2, I have given up in disgust. The fact that I am a degreed Electrical Engineer and a former MSCE may or may not be relevant. But I strongly suggest that you research what percentage of people download Emby but never use it. I for one, after posting this message, am going to uh-install everything. And good riddance to your unhelpful prompts and error messages as well as your installation procedures that do not work (for me and who knows how many others?).
Raff 51 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 After tyring to get Emby to work under both Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu Linux 14.2, I have given up in disgust. The fact that I am a degreed Electrical Engineer and a former MSCE may or may not be relevant. Well, perhaps you thought your degree prevented you from asking for help - not sure why, since overall the people around here are really very helpful even to EE's (I'm and AE and they haven't run me out on a rail yet). If you do make it back this way, let us know what happened and I'm sure someone will try to help. I am willing to chalk this post up to frustration and consider it water under the bridge if you actually want to get Emby up and running. Since I haven't had an issue with various platforms I have installed it on, I would be curious what issues you ran into. I've definitely not had any issues on a variety of Windows OS's (7 to 10) and minus a minor Mono issue, tinkering on an old Fedora box didn't present any major hurdles. Permissions can be a tricky thing and some AV don't like the embedded server - but all variety of minor things can crop up depending on your set-up.
FrostByte 5392 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Makes us non-EE dummies feel a lot better about ouselves for not having any problems installing 2
Bert 49 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 I'm calling mensa right now... Never had a problem with installation.... I must be a genius.
wiretap 30 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Dear sir, Which online auction did you get your EE and MCSE from so I may send them a letter to revoke yours? In all seriousness, it isn't hard at all to install. What specific problems are you having? Did you remove all the malware from your machine first?
Luke 42081 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 We do take feedback very seriously, particularly when it comes to ease of use. Do let us know where you got hung up
maisto99 0 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 If you're using Norton Antivirus, or any antivirus for that matter, check to see if it quarantined the install files. I recently had this exact issue trip me up. Hope it helps! IMHO Emby has always been simple to install. The most work I had to do was point it to directories with the content. Thanks Luke and Team!
speechles 2055 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) Charles, Patience, persistence, and perseverance can help. Without ever offering at which point you felt hopeless enough to start this thread simply makes this thread seem like an irrational tantrum. You should at least give some insight into which part of the installation for windows and ubuntu seem to cause you consternation. Where have the documentation and developers failed you? It is unfair to us, as readers of your thread, that you have not provided us with this information. We could've felt your pain, or empathized in your dismay, perhaps even worked through the issue. All we can do now, is speculate as to why you felt the need to let us know you were ee/mcse trained? Was it so that we wouldnt think less of you? No matter your level of expertise it should'nt influence the installation of emby, the server or the clients. Maybe you just had a bad day and this was the last straw, broke the camels back? Lets assume this is why you made your post. You are welcome to your opinion in any event, at the very least thanks for sharing that. Most people who abandon software do it without making a forum post at all. So even if you dont come back to fill us in on what went wrong, cheers.
