hstamas 179 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Had an initial scan from drive X: with about 40 shows. Just added drive y: that has some of the the same series with later season. IE: Drive X = Family Guy Seasons 1 thru 4 Drive Y = Family Guy Seasons 5 and 6 Emby server lists these as separate entries in the media list as in I have two distinct listings for Family Guy. I see back in 2013 people asking for this to not happen and Im surprised to see that it still does unless fingers crossed I am missing a step? Thanks for any help.

As far as I know having all the episodes on one drive continues to be a requirement. The workaround is to put a junction point to seasons 5 and 6 in the folder where 1-4 are. add the folder containing 1-4 and the junction points to your library. Don't add the folder with 5 and 6. You'll get all 6 seasons in your library.
ebr 16187 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Most people use a drive pooling solution to handle this so it hasn't been a big priority.

If not I can't seem to find any info on drive pooling for Windows? storage spaces doesn't seem to work with mapped drives from my file server to the windows machine so that's not an option I'm afraid. The drive pooling software would live on your storage server in that case, not the windows 10 box.
GlitchZA 12 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I personally use Drive Bender for storage pooling on my windows machine and I haven't had any problems with it so far i also had a Linux server running with Greyhole storage pooling with which I also didn't have any problems.
Danee 57 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Another option would be Stablebit Drivepool: https://stablebit.com/DrivePool Been using it since 2011 (from early Beta stage) on my WHS 2011 and have not had a single problem with it, great piece of software!
ebr 16187 Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I'm sure we'll get to this eventually, but there are so many other advantages to drive pooling that it ends up being a better answer overall. Also, avoid mapped drives. That is 1980's network technology. Use UNC paths (share names) instead.

Also, avoid mapped drives. That is 1980's network technology. Use UNC paths (share names) instead. Yeah, never been able to get UNC shares to work hence mapped drives with path substations. When I input a UNC path for a library import it does nothing. No error or anything the filled in field just goes blank after hitting enter. I'm surprised that combining libraries wasn't a basic feature considering Kodi and Plex among others I'm sure support it out of the box. Seems like an unnecessary extra networking step/software layer? I like to tinker as much as the next guy but this just makes things oddly more complicated in my opinion but if everyone else seems to not mind who am I to complain?
ebr 16187 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 The reason the drive pooling solution is a good one is because it happens at the network/OS level. Therefore, ALL applications can take advantage of it - not just Emby. This simplifies setup of all of your systems and applications by simply using one server/share name and then adding as many drives as necessary without ever having to then go back and add them to the individual systems. Like I said, I'm sure we'll get to it eventually but most people who have large libraries of media use drive pooling because it saves so many headaches all over the place. 1
Danee 57 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 What @@ebr says, plus the fact that most pooling solutions offer some kind of redundancy so a failed drive will not cause any dataloss.
